Lake Kariba
The remote, idyllic atmosphere of Lake Kariba perfectly frames the spectacular views of what seems like an inland sea. Fed by the twisting Zambezi River, this vast lake stretches 140 miles long and up to 20 miles wide, making it one of the largest man-made lakes in the world.
Being able to watch the sun set and the moon rise over flat waters fringed by mountains and forests is fantastic, as you’ll feel as if you’ve discovered a hidden corner of Zimbabwe. On the lake’s shore, Matusadona National Park is a magnet for wildlife, where the Big Five, antelope, porcupines and fish eagles all make their way to the freshwater haven.
Mana Pools National Park
Just south of Lake Kariba, along the Zambezi River, you’ll find Mana Pools National Park, one of Zimbabwe’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Dramatic cliffs rise above the river and floodplains, bringing the landscape to life with a wealth of wildlife. Their gatherings around the water form one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural spectacles, offering an experience that will stay with you long after you leave.
