If you’re looking for an authentic safari experience that combines world-class guiding, diverse landscapes and remarkable wildlife, this journey through Zimbabwe is hard to beat. Flying between camps by light aircraft, you’ll witness vast stretches of unspoilt wilderness before landing in three of the country’s most celebrated safari destinations.

Begin your safari at Somalisa Camp in the legendary Hwange National Park. The main area is built around a popular waterhole, so elephant sightings are not unusual!

Fly north to the riverbanks of the mighty Zambezi for a stay in Nyamatusi Camp. Enjoy the diverse safari activities across the wide flood plains of Mana Pools National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its dramatic landscape and remarkable concentration of animals.

End your safari hidden away on the remote island of Fothergill Island on the shores of Lake Kariba.

Zimbabwean guides have a stellar reputation. They’ll overwhelm you with their knowledge of the wildlife, their skill at tracking animals and their passion for providing you with an excellent safari holiday.

Itinerary

Leave London on your overnight flight to Victoria Falls Airport via Johannesburg.
Upon landing, you’ll travel by light aircraft to Somalisa Camp in the south-eastern part of Hwange National Park for a three-night stay. Encapsulating the original style and spirit of safari, Somalisa Camp overlooks a waterhole and its flurry of animal activity. A stay here gives you easy access to many of the best locations within Hwange. Enjoy both day and night game drives full of wildlife but practically devoid of other travellers. With fantastic game viewing all year round, you'll enjoy two safari activities a day during your three-night stay in this spectacular part of Hwange National Park.

In the fresh, early morning, drive across the savannah grassland approaching huge herds of elephant and buffalo, prides of lion and grazing giraffe, passing cantering zebra and antelope. Keep your eye out for the predators of cheetah, leopard and African wildcat, prowling in the distance and waiting for the opportune moment to pounce.

To experience and view the wildlife from a different perspective, head out on a walking safari led by a knowledgeable guide. Exploring the land on foot out of the safari vehicle will take you closer to the wildlife, immersing you in the sights, sounds and smells of the landscape.

Staying at   Somalisa Camp
Somalisa Camp is greatly concerned with sustainable tourism and takes responsibility for many aspects of Hwange’s conservation. Sit in on one of the regular presentations to learn about their work to protect wildlife. Led by one of the local villagers, visit a nearby village with a tour of the school and meetings with the community headman or headwoman. This is an authentic insight into the Zimbabwean way of life.

Today, you'll transfer to the airstrip and fly by light aircraft to Mana Pools National Park for your three-night stay at Nyamatusi Camp.

You'll be mesmerised by the changing scenery. Here, enjoy twice-daily game drives in the game-rich national park. Mana Pools is named after the four pools within the park; these are very important during the dry season.

Starting as a trickle in Zambia, the Zambezi River grows into one of Africa's lifelines, passing through six countries. Staying in Nyamatusi gives you fantastic access to this colossal natural wonder and all its adventurous opportunities.
On your last morning in Mana Pools, head out early on a game drive, watching the animal interactions between the Cape buffalo, elephant, lion, hyena, rare species of wild dog and cheetah, and more. A thrilling experience of Mana’s beauty, enjoy a nature walk, with your guide pointing out the many exciting sights you’ll come across.

Today, you'll transfer back to the airstrip for your flight to Fothergill Island. Spend the next four nights here, taking in the beautiful African sunsets.

There's an opportunity to visit the African Parks Matusadona conservation project en route; speak to one of our Travel Specialists about adding this to your holiday. Learn about the conservation work going on in the park.

As well as exhilarating game drives, why not opt for a walk with your expert guide? It's a great way to learn more about tracks, smaller creatures and birds in the area.
Staying at   Fothergill Island
While at Fothergill, you can board one of the boats and explore the waterways, looking for creatures or birds. Catch-and-release fishing is an optional activity here as well.
Staying at   Fothergill Island
Spend your final day here, either searching for game, on the water or by the pool side, with a refreshing beverage.

After breakfast this morning, take a light aircraft flight back to Victoria Falls. Here, you'll check in for your return flight to Johannesburg and onward to London.

You may want to add an extra night here to explore Victoria Falls. Speak to one of our Travel Specialists to arrange this add-on.
