Why visit Malawi?

Malawi is a thing of beauty, its very bones defined by sweeping terrains that rise and fall with grace. The highest peak in Malawi reaches a staggering 10,000 feet, while the lowest point is barely above sea level, establishing sharp contrasts that comprise a varied landscape unlike anywhere else in Africa. As you explore the region’s rich depth, you’ll encounter many friendly faces, locals with wide smiles and a ready willingness to help you find your way.

One of Malawi's best safari destinations, Majete Wildlife Reserve can be found in the Lower Shire Valley, along Africa’s Great Rift Valley. Spread across 700km, Majete Wildlife Reserve is a unique conservation area with an inspiring history of recovery and restoration. After decades of poaching, African Parks began reintroducing species to the land in 2003 and their innovative efforts have resulted in the successful creation of a thrilling and abundant 'Big Five' safari destination. This beautiful natural haven is ideal for a diverse range of safari activities, from tracking black rhino on foot across the dry savannas to boat trips down the tranquil Shire River.

The vivid landscape of Malawi is as stunning as it is geographically diverse; savannah stretches across nature reserves while Lake Malawi accounts for 20% of the surface area. An expanse of glittering fresh water, Lake Malawi is an adventure playground perfect for kayaking, sailing and water skiing, with a fringe of golden sand beaches to relax on after partaking in exhilarating pursuits. Paddling across the waters of the Lake is a memorable experience; as you stop to gaze into the giant aquarium below you, you'll observe a world brimming with hundreds of dazzling and vibrant fish species for which this lake is renowned. At the southern end of the lake is the Lake Malawi National Park, recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its exceptional natural beauty and biodiversity. Set against a dramatic rugged mountain landscape, the deep clear waters here are a snorkellers’ dream.

In the south of the country, towering at almost 10,000 feet, are the magnificent mountain peaks of Mount Mulanje. It is here that the country’s finest hiking, trekking and rock climbing trails through mist-enshrouded, wildlife- rich forests are located. Malawi’s neighbouring countries make it a great option for a twin-centre holiday: it is easy for example, to combine a Malawi holiday with beach breaks in Mozambique or Zanzibar.
