This superb tailor-made trip starts with unforgettable gorilla tracking in Rwanda's Parc National des Volcans. Then fly to Kenya for a Big Five safari in Masai Mara, during which you'll enjoy game drives in customised four-wheel drive vehicles. Afterwards, fly to Zanzibar to visit the very atmospheric Stone Town and enjoy rest & relaxation time on the beach.
Itinerary
Day 1 | Fly UK to Kigali
On arrival in Kigali off your international KLM flight***, you will be met by your driver and transferred to Flame Tree Cottages for an overnight stay with breakfast included.
*** For this sample itinerary, we include return economy class airfare from London or selected other UK airports with KLM. Should you prefer to utilise another carrier, please let us know and we will be happy to quote accordingly.
Day 2 | Kigali - Parc National des Volcans
This morning, your private, experienced, English-speaking Rwandese driver-guide will meet you at your hotel. (Time to be confirmed with you locally).
Set off on an excursion to see one of the Genocide Memorial sites, and then drive two-and-a-half hours north in your comfortable, private 4x4 vehicle to Parc National des Volcans for a two-night stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge with all meals included.
Day 3 | Parc National des Volcans
Make an early start for the Parc National des Volcans, where you will do your first gorilla trek. You are met by staff from Park Headquarters at 7:00 am and briefed on conduct during gorilla tracking. The trackers then lead you into the forested slopes to seek one of the groups of Mountain gorillas. Reaching the gorillas can be quick, or it can take a few hours.
Return for lunch at the Mountain Gorilla View and in the afternoon visit the panoramic twin volcanic lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
Day 4 | Volcanoes NP - Kigali - Nairobi, Kenya
Road transfer from Parc National des Volcans back to the Kigali Airport in time to check in for the Kenya Airways flight to Nairobi.
On arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to the Palacina Suites Hotel for a one-night stay with breakfast included.
Day 5 | Masai Mara Game Reserve
Road transfer to the domestic airport for light aircraft to the Masai Mara Game Reserve to stay three nights at Kicheche Mara Camp, inclusive of all meals, picnics, local drinks (excluding champagne), unlimited game-viewing drives, escorted bush walks, conservancy fees and laundry.
Full day game drives to allow you to discover the Mara North Conservancy, which borders the Masai Mara and its extraordinarily rich wildlife.
Day 6 - 7 | Masai Mara Game Reserve
Day 8 | Masai Mara - Nairobi - Stone Town, Zanzibar
Day 9 - 13 | Zanzibar
Road transfer to Pongwe Beach Hotel for a five-night stay in a beach view double room with breakfasts and dinners included.
Spend your days relaxing on the beach or arrange sightseeing or various outdoor activities through the reception.
Day 14 | Departure
You will be transferred to Zanzibar Airport to check in for your flight*** journey home.
*** For this sample itinerary, which can be tweaked to suit individual requirements, we include international flights (economy class seating) with KLM.
