Combine the excitement of a walking adventure through the vast wilderness in Laikipia with some relaxing downtime on the Kenya Coast with this 12-night sample itinerary across Kenya.
First is the thrilling walking adventure element of your holiday. Spend five nights at two camps – Karisia Classing Walking Camp and Tumaren Camp – from which you’ll experience a Karisia Walking Safari. Seek out rare wildlife like the endangered Grevy’s zebra as you make your way into remote locations typical of Laikipia, an area of sweeping plains and rugged gorges, thorny acacias and rocky kopjes. You can also go camel riding and birding, or perhaps top rope climbing on a choice of rocks from beginner to advanced. Everything is tailored to your interests, providing a unique and personal stay.
Next up is the tranquil beach break. At Kinondo Kwetu, you’re always just steps away from the white sands of Galu on the Kenya Coast. For the final five nights, why not unwind on the beach? Or perhaps in one of the swimming pools, exercise gym or sauna. There’s also a PADI dive centre and the fringing reef is only 600m offshore. Although relaxation is the main goal of your time here, you may wish to go birding at Shimba Hills National Park, which is just 45 minutes away. Discover rare plants and some primate species like colobus monkeys and bush babies if you choose to explore.

Itinerary
Day 1 | Fly UK to Kenya
Day 2-4 | Karisia Classic Walking Camp, Laikipia
In the morning, transfer to Nairobi Wilson Airport, from where you’ll take a light aircraft flight to Laikipia. Then transfer to Karisia Classic Walking Camp.
Spend the first three nights in a Karisia Classic Walking Camp tent with Karisia Walking Safaris.
Laikipia is home to sweeping plains and rugged gorges, a beautiful country where thorny acacias and wild palms mingle with candelabra trees and gigantic rocky kopjes.
Karisia Walking Safaris offers immersive safari experiences, taking you into the heart of nature via on-foot exploration. As you make your way through the remote and unspoiled locations, you’ll discover the area’s flora and fauna – from the endangered Grevy’s zebra to African wild dogs and every other smaller species in between. Then, when you’re done adventuring throughout Laikipia for the day, head back to your spacious tent, which has comfy bedding for a good night’s rest.
Day 5-6 | Tumaren Camp, Laikipia
Shift over to the nearby Tumaren Camp, where you stay for the next two nights.
Once again, you have a breadth of wildlife experiences available at your fingertips. On a walking safari with Karisia, you’re paired with experienced Laikipia Masai and Samburu guides, who are all residents of the area. As you walk with them through the vast wilderness, they’ll show you how they’re able to track down predators like cheetah or lion. You can also go birdwatching for species such as Heuglin’s courser and bateleur eagle or observe reptiles like red-headed agama.
Afterwards, why not chill out in the 20-metre swimming pool back at the camp? While here, you may even spot giraffe which sometimes venture out near where you stay for the night.
Day 7-11 | Kinondo Kwetu, Kenya Coast
In the morning, take a light aircraft flight to the Diani Airport on the Kenya Coast. Then transfer to Kinondo Kwetu.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday at Kinondo Kwetu on the Kenya Coast.
For the next five nights, this sophisticated hideaway offers the perfect contrast to the previous five days of adventure you’ve just experienced – just steps from a white sand beach.
There are still plenty of activities to get involved with if you’re still feeling active. Whether that’s horse riding, scuba diving, watersports or the ‘Sacred Kaya’ tour, you can fill your days with plenty of fun and excitement. Or, simply relax on the tranquil private beach, which is on a 16-acre plot south of Diani Beach, distanced from residential neighbours by rocky cliffs and seemingly endless sands. It’s often described as a ‘home away from home’ – something you’ll soon come to discover.
