Discover the wild heart of Zambia on this nine-night safari, which combines two iconic destinations with opportunities for river adventures, guided safaris and beach extensions. This tour is ideal if you want to see the best of the country’s wildlife before concluding at Victoria Falls.

You’ll start in South Luangwa National Park, a region famed for its ox-bow lakes and high density of wildlife. Over three nights at Lion Camp, you’ll explore the park with scheduled early morning and late afternoon game drives, watching for elephants, buffalo, leopards and lions alongside rare antelope species and the striking Thornicroft’s giraffe. Birds abound here too, with over 420 species recorded, making each safari drive as rewarding for birdwatchers as it is for big game enthusiasts.

Next, fly to Lower Zambezi National Park, where your days are framed by the majestic Zambezi River. At Chongwe River Camp, enjoy game drives, walking safaris and canoe or boat trips in a landscape of floodplains, woodlands and riverine forests. Expect close encounters with elephants, buffalo and a variety of other wildlife, while enjoying tiger fishing, birdwatching and quiet moments on the river, which complete your memorable experience.

The final stage of your trip takes you to Livingstone and the spectacular Victoria Falls. From Waterberry Lodge, you can explore the Falls from the Zambian side, enjoy boat cruises along the river, take guided village walks or spend time on the Zambezi with a picnic. For more adventurous days, we can arrange activities from bungee jumping and helicopter flights to elephant-back safaris.

With flights, transfers, park fees, meals and selected activities included, this tour offers an ideal way to explore Zambia’s wildlife, landscapes and rivers at your own pace. Optional beach extensions to Lake Malawi, Mozambique or Zanzibar can also be added if you wish to extend your adventure.

Itinerary

Depart from London Heathrow on an overnight flight to Lusaka via Johannesburg or Nairobi.

On arrival mid-morning, you'll be met for the connecting light aircraft flight to Mfuwe in South Luangwa. The drive to Lion Camp takes you past fields and through colourful villages, as well as the bush.

Stay for three nights in a tent with all meals, local drinks, park fees and early morning/late afternoon scheduled safari game drives included.

Staying at   Lion Camp
Spend the next two days on safari in South Luangwa. The meandering Luangwa River, with its ox-bow lagoons and dead-end tributaries, supports one of the highest concentrations of game in Africa. Enormous herds of elephant and buffalo coexist with 14 species of antelope, including the rare roan and sable antelope, and the striking Thornicroft's giraffe is just one of the valley's endemic subspecies. The waterways contain large populations of hippos and crocodiles, and numerous crocodiles and hippos inhabit the river and waterways. Meanwhile, the leopards, lions, caracals and servals prey on the abundant herbivores. South Luangwa claims to have one of the highest leopard densities in Africa. Birds are a significant attraction, with over 420 recorded species. Observing the storks and herons feeding on the fish in the shrinking pools is quite an experience.
Staying at   Lion Camp

After a morning game drive and breakfast, you'll be transferred to Mfuwe via Lusaka for the light aircraft flight to Lower Zambezi. As you fly in, you'll see the islands dotting the expanse of the Zambezi River, and probably spot elephant, buffalo and pods of hippo resting on the edge of the sandbanks.

Transfer to Chongwe River Camp for a three-night stay in a Double Chalet, with all meals, park fees and early morning/late afternoon scheduled safari game drives included.

Enjoy two days on safari in Lower Zambezi National Park. This is a beautiful, pristine 4,000-square-kilometre wilderness area of riverine forests, broad flood plains and woodlands in the hills below the escarpment along the northern end of the valley (which acts as a physical barrier to most of the animals). It's distinguished not only by its tranquillity, wildlife and fantastic tiger fishing, but also by the variety of safari experiences: game viewing on game drives, walking, boat and canoe safaris. Elephants and buffalo are common, often grazing on the islands of the Zambezi River. Bushbuck, waterbuck, eland, kudu, zebra and wildebeest are prey for leopards, spotted hyenas and wild dogs. Great herds of buffalo attract large prides of lion. Lower Zambezi is rich in waders and kingfishers, with eagles, storks and bee-eaters among the over 375 recorded species.
Staying at   Chongwe River Camp

Following a morning game drive and breakfast, you'll be transferred to the airstrip for a light aircraft flight to Livingstone via Lusaka. You'll be met and transferred to Waterberry Zambezi Lodge, where you'll stay for three nights, with all meals, drinks at the bar and dinner included, as well as one activity per day.

Waterberry Lodge's in-house activities include a visit to Victoria Falls from the Zambian side, river cruises from the lodge, fishing trips, picnics on the island in the Zambezi, guided birding or village walks and excursions into Livingstone to enjoy local markets and more.

Staff are on hand to book additional adventure activities or elephant back safaris, helicopter flights and more. We'll gladly pre-arrange this for you.

You'll be transferred to the airport for your afternoon scheduled flight via Johannesburg to London.
