This private, fully guided individual tour takes in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to track the endangered Mountain gorillas, staying at the lovely Buhoma Lodge.  Then travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a stay at Ishasha Wilderness Camp and then two nights in the Mweya Sector, the northern part of this wildlife-rich national park.

You will be able to enjoy excellent wildlife viewing in Queen Elizabeth and also in season, Chimp tracking in Kyamburu.

At Bwindi, asisde from visiting the amazing Mountain gorillas, you can also explore this beautiful evergreen rainforest which presents one of the most gratifying forest birding experiences to be had in Africa, and visit the resident Batwa community.

As is the case with any Uganda tour. this trip can very easily be modified or combined with a beach extension to Zanzibar - ask us for details.

Itinerary

Depart on a daytime* international flight to Entebbe. On arrival this evening into Entebbe Airport, your professional driver-guide will welcome you. You will be transferred to Boma Hotel where you stay overnight with breakfast included. * If you arrive earlier today off an overnight flight for example, let us know and we'll arrange an activity for you, should you wish.
You will be transferred to the airport for the Aerolink light aircraft flight to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, departing around 10h15. On arrival at the airstrip at 11h25, you will be met and transferred by 4-wheel drive vehicle to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Stay for 3 nights at the very comfortable Buhoma Lodge in a spacious en- suite cottage, with all meals included. Even in the grounds of the property, some wonderful birds such as the Ross's turacou (pictured here) may be spotted - this species has been known to nest around the lodge.
The lodge is a 5 minute walk to the Park HQ and trailhead. After breakfast you will be escorted to the HQ to meet your guides for your Gorilla tracking experience. An early morning hike into the forest on the slopes of the volcanoes, led by experienced trackers will bring you amongst a family of Mountain Gorillas. These massive primates are extremely rare, only approximately 1,063 in the wild. Tracking the Gorillas may be fairly strenuous - it may take anything from about 45 minutes up to a few hours to reach one of the resident habituated family groups. Mountain Gorillas are wild animals, as such sightings cannot be guaranteed, however the success rate is well over 90%.
Staying at   Buhoma Lodge
You have the option of a second Mountain gorilla tracking excursion, subject to permit availability. (Uganda gorilla permits are currently US$700 - November 2022 update). Alternatively, we highly recommend a guided nature walk, especially for birding enthusiasts. During these guided walks, species such as the robust Blue monkey (pictured), are seen quite often.
Staying at   Buhoma Lodge
After breakfast, depart on the 2 - 3 hour drive northwards to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you stay in the lovely riverside Ishasha Wilderness Camp with all meals and game-related activities included. During the balance of the day, you will be taken for a game drive.
Your driver-guide will take you for a game drive in search of resident wildlife, which here includes lions with a propensity to climb into trees. From Ishasha, drive up to Mweya, the northern sector of the national park, and stay 2 nights at Katara Lodge with all meals included.
Your day will be taken up with wonderful game viewing and a a launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel, well known for its wildlife and aquatic bird life.
Staying at   Katara Lodge
This morning you will be transferred by road to Kasese airstrip for early afternoon (14h20) Aerolink flight to Entebbe international Airport. You will be transferred Papyrus Guest House in Entebbe, where you have the use of a day/evening room and where you may wish to have dinner.(Cost of room and meal for own account). Evening transfer to Entebbe Airport to check in for the late night flight back home.
