Zambia's South Luangwa National Park is a place of rugged beauty known for abundant wildlife, for being among the best places to spot leopard and other big cats, for its exceptional guides and as the birthplace of the walking safari.

On our 9-night Luangwa Encounter walking safari, you have an in-depth experience of the magnificent South Luangwa as you journey from one camp to the next.

Itinerary

Depart from London Heathrow on your overnight flight to Johannesburg.
On arrival early morning, connect with morning flight to Lusaka. On arrival about lunch time, you will be met and assisted to your late afternoon light aircraft flight to Mfuwe Airport in the South Luangwa. Your first night will be at Mfuwe lodge, all meals and activities are included.
Today you will be transferred for a 2 night stay at Chamilandu in an open-front tree-house providing an 180° view over the impressive Luangwa River to the Nchindeni Hills beyond. Explore the seven ox-bow lagoons, which attract an abundance of wildlife. You have the choice of a walking safari and morning and/or evening game drives. The riverbank al fresco lunch is a real wow.
After an early breakfast, transfer to Chindeni for a 2 night stay in one of just four spacious, tented rooms standing on a raised wooden deck. Spend a leisurely afternoon beside the tranquil waters of the ox-bow lagoon before the evening game drive.
You can indulge in private game-viewing from your own verandah, go on a bushwalk or on a morning and evening game drive.
Staying at   Chindeni Bushcamp
Travel towards the confluence of the Kapamba and Luangwa rivers to Bilimungwe bushcamp, the southernmost camp in South Luangwa National Park. Stay 2 nights in one of just four reed and thatch chalets. Each has an open deck from which you can watch the wildlife day and night. Meals don't have to interrupt your game-viewing, either: the bar and dining area are sited for optimal observation of Bilimungwe's permanent waterhole.
You can enjoy in private game-viewing from your private deck, go on a bushwalk in the surrounding forest or take a morning and evening game drive. The clear waters of the Kapamba River make a memorable setting for a barefoot sundowner.
Set off to your final destination, Kapamba Camp for a 2 night stay in an open-fronted stone chalet, with double sunken stone bath and private deck for watching animals as they come to drink at the Kapamba River.
The walking from Kapamba is exceptional. Many of the trails follow the course of the river and encounters with big game like elephant and buffalo are not uncommon. Wild dog have been sighted from camp.
Staying at   Kapamba Camp
You go game-viewing through the park and on to Mfuwe Lodge for the airport transfer. En route, you can stop at Tribal Textiles, to see the disarmingly simple production of hand-painted traditional and contemporary Zambian fabrics. Board the light aircraft flight to Lusaka Airport to meet your late afternoon flight to Johannesburg, which connects with evening overnight flight to London, arriving early morning.
