Head out on this 13-day journey, which pairs a classic Big Five safari with an easy-going Indian Ocean beach stay, making it a strong choice if you want contrast without complication.

You begin in South Africa’s Limpopo Province, where four nights at Tintswalo Waterberg Lodge place you deep within the Welgevonden Game Reserve – a spectacular protected wilderness known for its wide-open savannah, rocky ridges and rich wildlife.

Days here revolve around guided game drives led by expert rangers who know the reserve intimately. Morning and afternoon drives give you time to track elephant, lion and other iconic species, with the changing light revealing very different sides of the landscape. All meals are included, so when you’re not out on safari, you can slow the pace, take in the views from the lodge and listen to the sounds of the bush as day turns to night.

From South Africa, you fly on to Mauritius for a full week at the all-inclusive Tamassa resort on the island’s south coast. Here, the days are yours to shape. You might spend them by the pool and on the beach, or head out onto the reef that almost rings the island, where colourful reef fish, moray eels and crayfish are often seen. Diving and snorkelling are available with qualified instructors, or you can simply enjoy the space and calm of the coastline.

Evenings bring relaxed dining across two restaurants, followed by a choice of bars or the hotel’s lively Jalsa nightclub. This safari and beach combination works particularly well if you’re looking for good value, varied experiences and quality accommodation, with everything carefully arranged so you can focus on enjoying each place in its own way.

Itinerary

Depart London Heathrow on your overnight flight to Johannesburg. Please contact us for regional departures, often at the same or lower cost.

Arrive at Johannesburg Airport, collect your hire car and depart for the easy three-and-a-half-hour drive towards the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. Located in one of the most fascinating and bio-diverse areas of South Africa, a suite in the Tintswalo Waterberg Lodge will be your home for the next four nights.

Your stay includes all meals, two daily game drives in the Welgevonden Game Reserve and an abundance of other activities on offer.

Spend the next few days on safari with morning and afternoon game drives in Welgevonden, keeping your eyes peeled for the safari favourites. Some of these include elephants, buffalo, giraffe and lions, along with more unusual and rare species such as the brown hyena and blue crane.

Depart after an early breakfast for the four-hour drive to Johannesburg, where you'll return your hire car and check in for the four-hour flight to Mauritius.

Once arriving in the early evening, you'll be transferred to the four-star Tamassa Hotel at Bel Ombre, located on the south west coast of Mauritius.

With views of the dramatic mountains, dense sugarcane fields and palm trees fringing the ever-lasting sight of the Indian Ocean, you'll get to spend the evening in peace, relaxing in your Standard Room at this all-inclusive resort.

Staying at   Tamassa

Your seven-day stay will be in one of the resort’s 214 stylish rooms, where the bold colours of the stylish interiors perfectly complement the tropical island surroundings.

The island of Mauritius offers exceptional snorkelling and diving opportunities with the clear underwater visibility granting fantastic views of all the natural coral walls and local fish, such as damselfish, boxfish and clownfish. The resort will be on hand to help organise any underwater excursions, as well as an array of complimentary land activities. It also features a luxury spa, a fully equipped fitness centre and three large swimming pools with pool service.

Staying at   Tamassa
Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before checking out and transferring to Mauritius Airport for either the day or night flight home, date dependent.
