Tanzania’s diverse wildlife and landscapes are absolutely captivating. The destinations on this 10 day safari encompass everything commonly associated with the quintessential African holiday, wildlife, lodges and beautiful African settings amongst the bush. Included is the Namiri Plains, found in an exclusive part of the Serengeti with a dependable level of high quality game viewing.

Upon landing, you will be whisked off for one night at the Onsea House, a marvellous starting point for your Tanzania adventure. From here you’ll journey to Gibb’s Farm. Perfectly positioned in between Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, Gibb’s Farm is a beautifully tranquil place to marvel, appreciate and explore the breathtaking splendour of the plants, birds and animals found in this pristine corner of East Africa.

Nicknamed Africa’s Garden of Eden the collapsed volcano of Ngorongoro Crater holds an incredibly high concentration of wonderful wildlife, creating an astonishing natural wonder. Lake Manyara is sometimes overlooked for Tanzania’s larger National Parks, creating a pleasantly quiet and intimate ambience to enjoy the wildlife including hippo, giraffe, buffalo, wildebeest and the fascinating tree-climbing lion.

After three nights spent exploring these two natural wonders, a light aircraft flight will transport you to the Serengeti National Park and the Namiri Plains. Run by the Asilia safari company, Namiri Plains will provide an outstanding wildlife experience for discerning travellers. The extraordinary land, which was closed for 20 years to create a safe haven for cheetah, is undoubtedly big cat country where they rule and roam free. The dramatic rocky outcrop which are dotted along the plains are the perfect observation points for cheetah, lion and leopard on the prowl for their prey.

One of the stopping points on the thrilling cycle of the dramatic Great Migration, this impressive act of nature has a profound effect on the land and animals of Namiri Plains. From October to May the nutrient rich soils of the eastern plains and the new grass attracts millions of wildebeest and other game to the Namiri Plains – a heaving and swaying wave of animals as far as the eye can see.

Upon landing in Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred to Onsea House. Perched on a green ridge and surrounded by flourishing subtropical vegetation, the striking views from this county guest house sweep out across neighbouring Arusha and out to the distant Rift Valley. The sunsets watched from here are absolutely phenomenal. All immaculately crafted and decorated with an African colonial style, the cosy rooms have a friendly atmosphere. The restaurant has a renowned reputation, the critically acclaimed menu offering some of Tanzania’s best food. Dining on Axel’s, the Chef Manager, delicious four-course extravaganza in the open-air terrace dining room is a superb way to spend your first evening in Tanzania.
After a splendid breakfast you will be transferred to Gibb’s Farm in a comfortable safari vehicle, sent on your way with an Onsea House picnic box to enjoy on your picturesque journey. Gibb’s Farm is a marvellous authentic experience of East African rural life. Found next to the forested slopes of Ngorongoro Crater overlooking the coffee fields and encircled by thriving flowering gardens and majestic ancient trees. The rustic charm and gracious style of the cottages create a beautiful sanctuary, a home away from home, to retreat to after your twice daily safari activities. Each cottage is decorated with a theme, for example the Mulberry Cottage is named after the delightful Mulberry trees surrounding it, with beautiful botanical illustrations hung along the walls.
Staying at   Gibbs Farm
Gibb’s Farm provides plenty of diverse activities for you to experience and appreciate the untouched Tanzania wilderness and culture. Take an invigorating walk, with many routes available, to get close to the captivating nature of the land. Embark on a two hour hike through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will come across a magnificent waterfall named ‘elephant caves’ dug up by these grand creatures. You will have the opportunity to spot passing buffalo, bushback and baboon along your way. To learn about the Iraqw culture of the area, walk to and around the neighbouring village Tloma where you will have the opportunity to meet a local family and discover their traditional ways of life.
Travel to the famous Lake Manyara National Park, on a guided afternoon drive to watch pods of the magnificent hippo gather together during the colourful sunset at the Hippo Pools. Visiting Lake Manyara National Park in the dark is a wonderful experience, the expert guides leading you on an astonishing game drive to observe the elusive nocturnal animals. The animal spots are slightly harder to come by but are all the more satisfying when and if you do spot them. There is a warming hot chocolate waiting for at on your return.
In the morning you will be driven from Gibb’s Farm to the Manara Airstrip where you will board your light aircraft to Seronera Airstrip. Upon landing you will be transferred to Namiri Plains, the car journey your first exciting glance of this incredible land. Tucked away in a grove of fever trees are the eight luxury tents of Namiri Plains. The tents have been created for safari enthusiasts, the feeling of seclusion and exclusivity the perfect atmosphere for your twice daily activities. With the closest camp 45 minutes away the landscape will feel like yours, - and only yours, to explore. Once you have arrived settle into your traditional safari tent which is idyllically placed in the shade of a giant acacia tree. From your gorgeously decorated and comfortable tent you will be able to admire the 360o views of the vast plains, full of wildlife running, stamping, galloping and flying.
Start your day with a sunrise breakfast picnic on top of Soit Le Motonyi rocks, the sun breaking over the horizon and casting warm morning light over the unspoiled land you will spend the next two days discovering. Enjoy twice daily wildlife viewing and bird watching game drives, the expert guides sharing their extensive knowledge about the big and small wonders of the Serengeti. Across the landscape you may see herds of buffalo, elephant and giraffe, dotted with thousands of eland, impala and Grant’s gazelle. This vast number of prey attracts prowling predators; lion and hyena hunting in packs, cheetah skulking through the short-grass and leopard lazing in the branches hanging over the Seronera River waiting for the ideal moment.
A walking safari is a glorious way to explore the bush, surveying it on the same eye-level as the wildlife. Out the boundaries of a safari vehicle your senses of smell, sound and sight are heightened and shared with the animals you will be tracking. End your day with a sundowner on top of a kopje overlooking the land; the perfect end to your safari adventure and farewell to the captivating land.
After breakfast, you will leave behind Namiri Plains Camp with a transfer to the Seronera Airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport and your connecting flight to London.
