Encounter iconic wildlife species and enjoy the gentle pace of the Indian Ocean coast on this ten-night exploration of Kenya by road and rail.

You begin on the sweeping plains of Amboseli, with Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, rising dramatically in the distance. Here, the possibility of meeting the rare ‘big tusker’ elephants makes for truly memorable moments in the wild. Early morning game drives and quiet evenings in a carefully selected lodge allow you to take in the whole spectacle of the landscape and its wildlife.

Next, you’ll travel to Tsavo National Park, Kenya’s largest and oldest park. The camp is ideally located for you to explore the park’s varied habitats, from open savannahs to riverine forests, home to lions, elephants and abundant birdlife. Across the following few days, enjoy guided drives with knowledgeable resident guides who share insights into the park’s ecosystems and the animals that call it home. Evenings also provide the chance to relax in comfort under wide African skies.

The journey then takes on a different pace as you board the scenic Madaraka Express to Mombasa, travelling through rolling landscapes and small towns. Arriving at the Kenya Coast, you can unwind on palm-fringed beaches, explore the resident culture or set out to snorkel vibrant coral reefs. This combination of safari and coast allows you to enjoy both Kenya’s wild heart and its serene shores.

Whether spotting legendary creatures or simply relaxing by the ocean, you’ll return home with a rich sense of Kenya’s natural beauty and diversity.

Itinerary

Depart the UK on your flight to Nairobi. On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to The Villa Rosa Kempinski. Settle into your room and enjoy the hotel’s facilities, taking time to relax after your journey. Breakfast is included for the following morning.
This morning, your driver-guide will take you to Amboseli National Park in a private 4x4. On arrival, settle in at Elewana Tortilis Camp for a two-night stay. After lunch, head out on your first game drive, spotting everything from elephants to lions, leopards, giraffes, buffalo, wildebeest and over 400 bird species. The camp allows for dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro on the horizon. All your meals and drinks are included, giving you time to relax and immerse yourself in the African bush.
Spend today exploring Amboseli National Park on guided game drives. Rise early for the best chance to see elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, buffalo and zebra against the striking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Break for lunch at your camp before heading out again in the afternoon to discover more of the park’s diverse wildlife and birds. Evenings are spent relaxing at the camp, enjoying meals and a selection of drinks while absorbing the expansive African landscapes.
Travel east to Tsavo West National Park for a two-night stay at Finch Hattons Camp, near the Chyulu Hills. Enjoy included game drives in a shared vehicle, spotting the park’s abundant wildlife, or take guided nature walks. You can also explore the dramatic Shetani lava flow or, if you’re feeling energetic, hike the Oldonyo Karami volcano. The camp also features an excellent spa (at an additional cost), and evenings can be spent on the stargazing deck, admiring the dark African skies.
Spend the day with one of the included activities at the camp. You’ll begin with a morning game drive, followed by a leisurely breakfast. Then, in the afternoon, consider a guided nature walk to explore the park’s landscapes and wildlife. Return to camp in time for sundowners by the campfire, listening to the sounds of hippos in the neighbouring springs. Enjoy an evening under the vast African skies, with all meals and a selection of drinks included, allowing you to unwind.
Enjoy a game drive and breakfast in the morning. Then transfer to Mtito Andei station to board the Madaraka Express to Mombasa in first-class comfort. On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to Almanara Luxury Resort on the Diani Coast. Settle into your Deluxe Ocean Room for a five-night stay, including all meals. Enjoy some time to relax and take in the Indian Ocean views after you arrive, preparing for the next few days of leisure, exploration and coastal adventures.
For the final few days, you’ll get to relax on the palm-fringed beaches of the Diani Coast. Take the opportunity to enjoy watersports such as snorkelling, kayaking or paddleboarding, or explore the area on sightseeing excursions to nearby villages, markets and natural attractions. Evenings can be spent dining at the resort, enjoying included meals, soft drinks, local beer and house wine, or simply watching the sun set over the ocean. These days offer a perfect balance of relaxation and activity.

Private transfer to Mombasa Airport for your homebound flight, connecting through Nairobi, and arrive in the UK early the following morning.

For a little extra, consider extending your journey: add an overnight stay in Nairobi with visits to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage and the Giraffe Sanctuary (£493 per person). Or, treat yourself to a sunrise hot air balloon flight over Amboseli, offering panoramic views of the park and, weather permitting, Mount Kilimanjaro, followed by a bush breakfast (£499 per person).
