Step into the heart of Botswana’s wilderness on this six-night safari, from exploring the rhythmic pulse of the Okavango Delta to experiencing the vast, open savannahs of Chobe National Park.

This tour is ideal for those who want a combination of rich wildlife encounters and comfort. You’ll begin at Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge, perched on the banks of the Savute Channel. Listen to the distant rumbling of elephants and set out on game drives through one of Africa’s most varied ecosystems. Savute is famed for its elephant herds, but you’ll also have the chance to spot lions, leopards, wild dogs and a host of bird species. Optional activities include visiting ancient San rock paintings and sundowners beneath sprawling baobabs.

Next, you’ll fly to Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, set in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Go from gliding along the winding waterways in a traditional mokoro canoe to watching wildlife gather at the floodplain lagoons from your 4×4 vehicle. Or, take to the skies on an optional helicopter safari for a fresh perspective of this remarkable wetland. Each day combines guided exploration with relaxed time at the lodge. And throughout, your expert local guides will share insights into Botswana’s ecosystems and wildlife, ensuring your journey is informative and immersive.

*No single supplement for travel in the green season (January to March and November).

Itinerary

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Maun, Botswana.

On your arrival today, you'll travel by light aircraft from Maun to the breathtaking Chobe National Park, where Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge is situated. This dynamic wilderness offers a sweeping expanse of savannah and rocky outcrops, and is surrounded by a marsh. Chobe is the elephant capital of the world, and the lodge is perched on the banks of the Savute Channel, where you can enjoy a birds-eye view of their natural habitat.

On your second day, rise early for the first of your three safari drives. You may encounter lions, wild dogs, leopards and hyenas, as well as rarer species such as roan and sable antelope. Savute is a great area for bird lovers, with over 250 species – most of which are native to the area. Throughout the day, there are other activities on offer, such as a visit to see the San Rock Paintings. After, you'll enjoy a second safari drive. Plus, sundowners are often served under the Baobab Trees before dinner, al fresco under a sky full of stars.

On the final day, you can enjoy some leisure time at the lodge.

Transfer by light aircraft from Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge to the luxurious Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, where you'll spend the next three nights. This spectacular lodge is nestled in the lush Okavango Delta, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest inland water systems in the world. The lodge's location lends itself well to water-based wildlife experiences, such as motorboat safaris or mokoro (traditional dugout canoes) excursions. Watch the sunset from the Fish Eagle bar set right on the water's edge, or enjoy conversation under the stars by the open fire pit.

Your second day gives you the opportunity to enjoy two safari experiences. If you really want to spoil yourself, take to the skies for a unique helicopter safari – a truly memorable way to watch wildlife from the air. Your day can be spent lazing on your deck or in your private rim-flow plunge pool while looking out at the expanse in front of you.

The final day in the world-famous Okavango Delta can be spent exploring the waterways in search of wildlife.

Depending on your departure flight from Maun, you may have the opportunity for one last safari experience at Belmond Eagle Island Lodge. From here, transfer to the airport for your light aircraft flight to Maun, where you'll connect to your onward or homeward flight.
