Beautifully located in the dense forest of Nyungwe, Munazi Lodge was constructed with reclaimed exotic wood from the National Park, helping indigenous plants regenerate and thereby, supporting the local environment. Guests are immediately impressed by the handcrafted furniture, made by local artisans, while construction teams worked closely with park managers and engineers. The property is a community effort, adhering to a strong ethic of sustainability and respect for the area.
The nine comfortable A-frame cabins are designed to suit the region’s high rainfall while letting in natural light. Elevated above the forest floor, each en-suite unit blends into the landscape. A wooden walkway connects the cabins to the main building, where there is a communal dining room with fireplace, lounge and an outside fire pit.
Just 1.2km off the Kigali–Rusizi highway near Pindura, Munazi feels a world away from traffic and noise. From the cabins, guests can savour a panoramic view of the north-facing valley, and on clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of Lake Kivu.
The forest around Munazi is alive with wildlife, notably various monkey species and the prolific birdlife includes several Albertine Rift endemics. Munazi Lodge beckons travellers keen on a quiet getaway in a beautiful setting. Our clients shared excellent feedback, and highlighted the welcoming, accommodating staff and delicious meals.
Useful tips for guests: Wi-Fi is intermittent and guests should pack a torch. Hot-water bottles are provided at night and there is a fire in the communal main building. Warm blankets are provided but do remember to pack warm and waterproof clothing and footwear with a firm grip for the trails.
