St Helena has been very well known as one of the most remote Islands in the world. This is due to its inaccesibility as its was only thanks to the RMS St Helena that made an appearance every couple of weeks that potential visitors could visit the island. In October 2017, the first commercial flights started and there is now a weekly flight to and from the island. 570588

The Island is teaming in history from the boer prisoners of war as to the exiled Napoleon Bonaparte. Wildlife is also fascinating as the island has some 455 invertebrate species with the opertunity to spot some rare birds such as the moorhen and the Fairy White Terns. You will also see colonies of Noddies, Boobies, petrels and Terns.
Itinerary
Day 1 Thursday - Departure
Leave London Heathrow this evening on your overnight flight to Johannesburg.
Day 2 Johannesburg
On arrival into Johannesburg, you will be transferred to your hotel, the D'oreal Grande where you can rest and recover from your flight the following morning.
Day 3 Saturday - St Helena
On arrival this afternoon you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel the Mantis St Helena, where you will spend the next 7 nights.
This afternoon will be at leisure spent at High Knoll Fort for a short Historical tour and amazing views of the Island.

Day 4 Sunday
After breakfast this morning you will be taking on a boat cruise off the island, here there are large schools of Bottle-Nose and Rough-Toothed dolphins as well as turtles, Devil Rays and Whale Sharks (when in season Jan - Mar)
From here you have a scenic view of the Island's coastline and you'll be able to see some of the old fortifications and outposts that are still standing.

Day 5 Monday
This morning meet Aaron at 09:30 for an orientation of the island by 4x4. Visit Deadwood Plain - the camp site of the Boer prisoners of war during the Anglo Boer War before a short walk to Flagg Staff which gives you panoramic views over the island. Visit Fisher's Valley, where Napoloen Rode is horse during exile and Levelwood, home of the Bell Stone. Wind down to the south west point of the island for amazing views over the Atlantic.

Day 6 Tuesday
Today you will be taken through Jamestown for a private tour of the Plantation house, this is home to the Govenor but also Jonathan, the worlds oldest living animal, a giant tortoise at 190 years! You will also see St Paul's Cathedral and Knoll Fort on your way back to the hotel.

Day 7 Wednesday
After breakfast this morning, you will have the rest of the day at leisure to explore the island at your own leisure. This evening, a dinner has been arranged at one of the local families to experience some local cuisine and learn about life and the culture of the Island.
Day 8 Thursday
You will be taken on a walk of Jamestown, you will then visit the castle and St James Church and the famous Jacob's Ladder that ascends 699 steps above the town and the court house.
In the afternoon, a hike to Diana's Peak, where better to experience the endemic plants and animals found on St Helena than in the island’s only national park.
Finish the afternoon with a tour of Wranghams house, a beautifully restored country house dating back to the East India Company's days on the island with tea on the lawns.

Day 9 Friday
Today you will visit Longwood House, owned by the French Government, which is one of the best Napoleonic museums in the world. Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to St Helena in 1815 and died on the island 6 years later. Stop off at the St Helena Distillery for a tour and tasting before returning to the hotel.

Day 10 depart back to Johannesburg
After breakfast this morning, you will have some time for a last look around Jamestown before heading back to Johannesburg for your final night before your departure.
Day 11 Return home
today you will go back to the airport for your flight to London Heathrow.
