Desert Rhino Camp is a mobile camp and study centre in the 400,000-hectare Palmwag Rhino Reserve operated by Save the Rhino Trust in association with Wilderness Safaris.

Accommodation and activities

At Desert Rhino Camp, (formally Palmwag Rhino Camp) guests stay in eight large Meru-style tents with en suite facilities including a flush toilet and bucket shower which is filled with hot water on request.

Activities

There are full-day outings and activities centre around tracking rhino on foot and by vehicle, accompanied by conservationists and trackers. This is a rare opportunity to gain a personal insight into the conservation work undertaken here and gain an understanding of the ecology of the area.

Days can be long when tracking the elusive and solitary black rhinos, but when a rhino is spotted it’s a wonderful moment – both worthwhile and humbling. The scenery is other-worldly and sunsets unforgettable. For those with enough time in during their holiday in Namibia, and an interest in conservation, this is not to be missed.

Community and conservation

A portion of revenue from Desert Rhino Camp goes to the Save the Rhino Trust to contribute towards its conservation operations.
