Perched on the edge of the Kalahari, Dinaka offers a serene retreat where desert wildlife gathers at the waterhole right outside your tent.
The camp has just seven en-suite tents, including a two-bedroom family option, creating a calm, personal atmosphere that works well for couples, small groups or families. Between April and November, you can sleep out on the deck under an endless sky, while the underground photographic hide lets you picture wildlife without disturbing them. Days are filled with both morning and afternoon game drives, with night drives adding a new perspective on desert life. Evenings are spent around the boma, sharing stories with other travellers—or, if you prefer, dining privately at your own table. With a pool to cool off and the chance to see Kalahari lions, oryx and springbok, Dinaka is best suited to those seeking a peaceful, nature-focused stay at the start of a Botswana holiday.
Accommodation
There are eight thatched tents, including a two-bedroom family tent. Each one features a bedroom with a king bed and mosquito net, plus a bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. A shaded veranda offers uninterrupted views of the waterhole, where wildlife often comes to drink. Select tents also include a minibar and coffee station. The design is relaxed yet refined, allowing you to wake to the sights and sounds of the Kalahari. Enjoy a peaceful atmosphere between safaris.
Dining
The central lounge and dining area features family-style tables and separate seating for honeymooners. Meals focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, which you can tuck into while overlooking the camp’s waterhole, letting you watch wildlife throughout the day.
A serviced bar in the central lounge provides a comfortable spot for drinks. Sip wines, spirits or local beers while taking in uninterrupted views of the waterhole and the Kalahari.
Activities
There’s a range of wildlife-focused activities. Day and night game drives give off-road access to lions, springbok, oryx and—if you’re lucky—brown hyena. While guided, armed nature walks let you explore on foot. You can track wildlife alongside Bushman guides or observe from the underground photographic hide. Between April and November, the sleep-out deck allows you to watch the desert stars, and evenings around the boma offer the chance to share stories with other travellers.
