Enjoy exploring Indigenous landscapes, meaningful wildlife observation and learning directly from the people who know these places best on this eight-night grizzly bear-watching trip to Canada.
Travelling to the remote Pacific coast, you’ll spend time both independently and in the care of the Klahoose First Nation, whose ancestral lands stretch deep into Desolation Sound and Toba Inlet.
Your journey begins with a flight to Vancouver, followed by two unstructured days to settle in. There’s time to explore the city at your own speed or ask us to arrange guided walks, whale-watching or time in nearby forests and mountains. From here, the focus shifts north to British Columbia’s coast in the traditional territory of the Klahoose People.
At Klahoose Wilderness Resort, you stay in a small, Indigenous-owned lodge that places culture, community and respect for the land at its heart. Each day revolves around the wildlife, guided by Klahoose experts who share their knowledge through stories, language and time spent together. Two full days are dedicated to grizzly bear viewing in Toba Inlet, using purpose-built platforms that allow you to watch bears fishing and moving through their territory without disturbance. Boat journeys to and from the inlet often bring sightings of seals, dolphins or whales along the way.
Evenings are as important as the days here. Over shared meals, you take part in cultural activities such as cedar weaving, carving and traditional ceremonies, offering a deeper understanding of Klahoose history and values. A quieter final day gives you space to kayak, walk forest trails or warm up in the wood-fired sauna, with optional excursions available if you’d like to do more.
This is a journey for those who value patience, respect for wildlife and a connection to place, returning with a richer understanding of coastal British Columbia and the people who call it home.
