Ever dreamt of seeing majestic polar bears in the wild? Then there are fewer places on the planet more remarkable than Churchill in northern Manitoba. This eight-day adventure combines spectacular wildlife encounters with a fascinating introduction to Canada’s remote subarctic.
Your journey begins with time spent in vibrant Toronto, where you can explore at leisure or opt for a day trip to the thundering Niagara Falls. From there, you travel west to Winnipeg and overnight before flying north into Churchill – the polar bear capital of the world and your last stop.
The adventure unfolds over the next four days. You’ll join expert guides for a tour of Churchill’s most fascinating landmarks, from the Polar Bear Holding Facility to the striking stone Inukshuk. At the Parks Canada Visitor Centre, detailed dioramas and exhibits bring the region’s natural and human history to life. Additionally, visits to the Polar Bears International House and a cultural presentation from a local Indigenous resident give real insight into the challenges of life in the north.
The highlight for many comes during two full days on a Tundra Buggy®, designed to take you deep into the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. From the safety and comfort of your vehicle, you’ll search the icy landscape for polar bears, arctic foxes and other subarctic wildlife.
Your final day in Churchill introduces you to the thrill of dog sledding and the traditions of the Métis people, as well as a visit to the Itsanitaq Museum, home to one of Canada’s finest Inuit collections. Evenings are spent in welcoming hotels where you can share stories with fellow travellers.
