Are you curious about wild places, coastal ecosystems and the stories that tie people and nature together? Then this ten-night Canadian adventure is perfect for you, offering time to explore its unique wildlife subspecies, indigenous culture and history, and ancient scenery across the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Protected Area and Haida Heritage Site.
You’ll settle into Canadian life with three nights in Vancouver, one of the country’s most engaging cities. Framed by mountains and ocean, it offers an easy introduction to the region’s coastal culture, with guided and independent time to take in the neighbourhoods, waterfronts and local food.
From here, travel north to begin your eight-night small-ship sailing expedition across Haida Gwaii, a remote archipelago off British Columbia’s northwest coast, often described as “the Galapagos of the north”! Days are shaped by the weather and wildlife, travelling by expedition vessel to reach places inaccessible by road and moving between forested inlets, open shoreline and rich marine waters.
Exploration happens by skiff, kayak and on foot. Walk beneath towering, moss-laden trees, land on remote beaches and spend time watching the sea for life below and above the surface. Puffins, albatrosses, jellyfish, sunfish, killer whales and humpback whales are all part of the living tapestry.
Cultural understanding is central to your experience, too. At SG_ang Gwaay, a Haida Heritage Site and UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll get to see longhouse depressions and mortuary poles that speak to thousands of years of Haida stewardship. Plus, throughout Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, the Haida Watchmen will share invaluable insights with you that bring depth and context to every landing.
This is a journey that rewards patience, curiosity and respect for place, offering a rare chance to connect closely with both nature and culture in one of Canada’s least-visited regions.
