Located in the dryforest of northern Peru, around an hour’s drive from Chiclayo is the wonderfully rustic Chaparri Ecolodge. The 34,000 hectare private reserve of Chaparri offers a tranquil escape with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The Chaparri Ecolodge is constructed in a traditional style from local materials blending into the natural environment. The lodge has 6 en-suite rooms featuring a patio with hammock. Electricity and hot water is provided by solar panels. Chaparri Ecolodge has a large network of trails and viewpoints from which to watch the wildlife with prime viewing early morning and late afternoon. Chaparri Reserve is an ornithologists dream with more than 237 species of birds including rare white-winged guan, Andean Condors, king vultures and several species of eagles. The lodge has Peru’s first wildlife rescue centre designed specifically for Spectacled Bears. The open-air dining room serves up buffet style meals and a bar service is available.
