Experience Highlights
- Duration: Half day
Depart early morning for Cerro Negro which means 'Black Hill', and it is the perfect description of this truly unique volcano. The Cerro Negro volcano was formed 160 years ago and that makes it the youngest volcano of Central America.
After a drive of approximately 1.5 hours in your 4x4 transportation, you will arrive to the base of the volcano. The volcano is only 400 metres high, but the ascent is steep. There is no paved trail; just a merely natural path along a rim that leads to the top. The ascent will take you about one hour and although it requires some effort the superb views will certainly be rewarding. The spectacular descent through the loose rocks and sand of Cerro Negro’s black slopes will take you around 15 minutes.
