Experience Highlights

  • Duration: 5

After breakfast, your guide and driver will collect you from your hotel. You will be transferred to the national park, where after leaving the vehicle at the parking area, you set out on foot to explore one of the circuits in this very beautiful park. Trails are for the most part graded as ‘easy’: this is one of the few protected areas in Madagascar which is suitable for visitors with limited mobility. Note that no matter how hot it may be in the surrounding areas, temperatures in Montagne d’Ambre are always about 10 degrees cooler. An experienced guide should easily be able to locate some of the reptiles for which this area is famed, notably Uroplatus (leaf-tailed) geckos and tiny Brookesia (stump-tailed) chameleons. Scenic attractions which can easily be included during your first excursion and which are not far from Station des Rousettes, include the picturesque Cascade Sacree and the larger waterfall Cascade Antakarana. Walks to other waterfalls and the crater lakes are longer and more challenging.
