Experience Highlights

  • Duration: Half-day (flexible)

After breakfast at Black Lemur Camp, depart on foot at approximately 07h30 from the back of the property and walk uphill along the trail which takes you to the crest of the hill. The first 30 - 45 minutes is moderate in grading, so a reasonable fitness level is required. Once you reach the top of this slope, your guides will lead you for about an hour along fairly level terrain along well constructed trails, to areas where habituated groups of the Critically Endangered Perrier's black sifaka are known to reside. The success rate for sightings of these amazing primates has been above 90%. (2018 update). You should also see Northern sportive lemur and perhaps a group of Crowned lemur, as well as birds including Greater vasa parrot, Madagascar turtle dove and Souimanga sunbird. Reptiles present include Oustalet's chameleon and Giant Madagascar velvet gecko. We recommend enjoying a traditional lunch (the chef makes an excellent Romazava stew) in the forest, before you then return to the camp in the mid afternoon. Fit visitors can include the picturesque Piscine (natural pool) in a longer walk.
