Set in a 44,000-acre private concession in Kenya, the brand-new &Beyond Suyian Lodge is a luxury 14-suite lodge overlooking rocky kopjes and undulating plains - discover stunning views over Ewaso Narok river and out to Mount Kenya during your Laikipia safari holiday.

If you wish to explore the Kenyan Highlands and its northern reaches, this property is an excellent choice. Or, if you have a family, you'll enjoy its great range of guided activities.

Safarilink and Air Kenya offer scheduled twice-daily flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Loisaba Airstrip in Laikipia, from where it's a one-hour vehicle transfer to Suyian Conservancy. Private flight charters can fly directly into Suyian’s private airstrip - or if you prefer to drive from Nairobi, the drive time is about five hours.

Accommodation

Accommodation is comprised of 14 suites, including a two-bedroom Family Suite and the option for a Triple Suite. Each unit has a private terrace with viewing deck and plunge pool. From the outdoor showers, you can enjoy panoramic views over the quintessential African wilderness. Not only that, but the property's architecture blends beautifully with the surroundings while the comfortable, contemporary style incorporates large windows, soft lighting, muted tones, natural wood, thatch and stone.

Dining

Indoor and outdoor dining areas include the chef’s table, a private dining room and the option for you to dine on your own terrace. Pre-dinner drinks are taken around the campfire-style sunken firepit, and there’s an outdoor courtyard with open-fire cooking area. The Samburu Bar has indoor and outdoor seating. Also, you can interact and socialise at the library, lounge and map room.

A rim-flow pool offers respite from the hottest hours of the day between game-viewing activities. There's a wellness centre with two rooms, each with private shower, changing area and veranda plus a steam-room with cold plunge pool. If you need it, a small fitness centre with cardio and strength-training fitness equipment is available, as is an outdoor shaded yoga studio offering two daily sessions.

Wildlife & Culture Activities

&Beyond Suyian Lodge offers a range of safari and adventure activities, enabling you to make the most of this unfenced wilderness area.

Game drives are conducted in mornings and evenings in search of large mammals such as savannah elephant, buffalo, lion, cheetah and rarer species like African wild dog and leopard. Fair numbers of endangered Grevy’s zebra are about, as are gerenuk and reticulated giraffe. Walking safaris are offered, during which you're accompanied by an expert guide who'll take you to explore the spectacular area.

You can also experience 'active ranching': visit resident herders as they graze 2,500–3,000 cattle and learn about their everyday lives. There's catch and release fishing offered at the Ewaso Narok River - or journey further north to remote Lake Turkana for an unforgettable angling experience.

  • Camel and horseback safaris are offered.
  • During community visits, you can meet Pokot and Samburu community members in their villages.
  • Scenic helicopter flights are offered - a wonderful way to see Mount Kenya, the Matthews Range or Lake Turkana.
  • River picnics can be arranged on the banks of Ewaso Narok River.
