We offer very carefully arranged three-night tours to this extraordinary place. Given the very harsh terrain, remote location and extreme heat, it is suitable for hardy travellers only. On the first day, you will be driven from Mekelle to the exceptionally active volcano Erta Ale. Here, camp is set up at Dodom, where you rest for a few hours.
Ascents of Erta Ale are done by night, in order to avoid the very high daytime temperatures and intense sun. Provisions are taken up for visitors by camels.
The descent of Erta Ale is done in the early hours, and is easier and faster than the 3 - 4 hour ascent. We then drive you to Abala Camp, at present an essential overnight stop due to road conditions.
Next, you will be taken to see the remarkably coloured lanscapes at Dallol, where you can also visti the salt lake Asale. Camp is set up overnight in Hamed Ella. (We arrange fully equipped camping for the Danakil adventures).
The following day, you will be driven out of the Danakil to either Hawzien or to Mekelle, for an overnight stay.
