Set in the lush foothills of the Andes, Casa Rivera del Cacao Hotel is a small, experience-led lodge surrounded by cacao trees, fruit gardens and the rolling countryside. This is one of Colombia’s great cacao regions, and your stay centres on understanding how chocolate is grown, harvested and transformed from pod to cup and bar.

You’re welcomed like an old friend and quickly drawn into life on the estate. Walk through the cacao plantation, taste the sweet white fruit inside freshly opened pods and see how chocolate is made in the kitchen. The lodge also arranges visits to nearby farms, birdwatching trips to observe many species of birds—including hummingbirds, tanagers and woodpeckers—and outings to the colourful town of La Pijao.

Comfortable rooms provide a relaxing base, but the real focus is the landscape, food and stories that surround you.

Accommodation

A small collection of rooms keeps the atmosphere personal to your stay. Each space pairs contemporary touches with the traditional hacienda style, creating a comfortable and characterful setting.

Standard Rooms sleep two adults, while Superior Rooms and Junior Suites offer more space for two adults and a child. Beds are generous and inviting, with layouts designed for both rest and active time indoors.

Large windows open onto views of tropical gardens, cacao groves and the surrounding hills. Birds and butterflies move through the greenery, bringing the landscape right to your doorstep and reinforcing a true sense of calm.

Dining

Set within the hacienda, Theobroma Restaurant celebrates Colombia’s rich culinary heritage. Dishes draw on regional traditions, combining indigenous, Spanish and global influences, from sancocho and tamales to chocolate-based desserts crafted from the estate’s cacao. Freshly baked Colombian pastries and world-class coffees and spirits complete a menu rooted in history and local flavours.

Activities

Explore cacao production in the Cocoa Workshop, taste local coffee on a scenic plantation tour or sample regional teas during a guided tasting. The six-course tasting menu showcases cocoa, coffee and rum in local dishes, while spirits and wines are also available for sampling.

You can also wander through the gardens to discover colourful flora and butterflies, or head out for a nature walk with an expert wildlife guide to observe many bird species. Every detail, from chocolate-based toiletries to sustainable practices, reflects the hotel’s commitment to responsible travel and care for the surrounding environment.
