The M/V Plancius was originally built in 1976 as an oceanographic research vessel for the Dutch Navy. Refurbished in 2009 for polar travel she now offers 53 cabins, accommodating 116 passengers all with en-suite facilities. The cabins range from 4 quad share with porthole, 2 triple share with porthole cabins, 9 twin porthole cabins, 26 twin cabins with window and 2 twin deluxe cabins. All cabins offer lower berth beds with the exception of the quad and triple share.
Cruises in this region are heavily focussed on exploration and education, led by highly experienced expedition team. The expedition leader has six lecture guides on hand with a wealth of polar knowledge. All excursions are included and depending on area and weather conditions, there will be 2 or 3 trips by zodiac each day with frequent landings. M/V Plancius offers opportunities for kayaking, hiking, snowshoeing, field camping, ski trekking and zodiac cruising, and selected departures also include photographic workshops. Encounter dramatic scenery such as Paradise Harbour and wildlife such as whales, penguins, seabirds and seals on your voyage.
After a day of exploration, relax in the spacious observation lounge, with bar and library. With large picture windows enjoy the diverse scenery and wildlife. If weather permits, spend time outside on deck immersed in this vast white wilderness.
