Explore the beauty of Argentine and Chilean Patagonia on this spectacular itinerary showcasing one of the most beautiful regions in the world. Traverse the Lake District from Argentina into Chile, see the jaw-dropping beauty of the Torres del Paine National Park and the endless steppe landscape. The final highlight is the Perito Moreno glacier, visited from the Patagonian town of El Calafate. The trip begins and ends in Buenos Aires where you have time to soak up the atmosphere of this vibrant city and explore the different neighbourhoods as well as also having a night at the Tango.
Itinerary
Day 1 UK - Buenos Aires
Depart the UK today on your chosen overnight flights to Buenos Aires.
Day 2 Buenos Aires
You are met on arrival into Argentina's capital and driven to your hotel in the centre of the city, and your base for the next 2 nights. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore some of the city known as the “Paris of South America” independently. On your first afternoon here you can begin to see some of the classical architecture, plazas, fountains and wide boulevards that draw the comparisons between the two cities.
Day 3 Buenos Aires
With your private guide explore the city's highlights. In the heart of downtown you visit the historic Plaza de Mayo with the 'Casa Rosada' Presidential building, the Cabildo and the main cathedral. You continue on to San Telmo neighbourhood, with its cobbled streets and colonial houses which is one of the oldest in the city. Next head to La Boca, the colourful port area, with its famous and well photographed Caminito street. The final stop is Recoleta Cemetery where you have the opportunity to visit the final resting place of Eva Peron.
Day 4 Buenos Aires - Bariloche
Today depart the capital and fly to the Argentine Lake District. There are some twenty lakes on the Argentine side of the Andes, the largest being Lake Nahuel Huapi on the shores of which sits the pretty town of Bariloche. The town has an almost alpine flavour with Swiss chalet style wooden buildings and is a great base to explore the surrounding national parks. Bariloche is your base for the next two nights.
Day 5 Lake District - Bariloche
Today you are collected and taken out to explore some of the spectacular scenery around the Lake District with a local guide. Take in panoramic views of lakes Moreno and Nahuel Huapi as well as mountains Lopez and Capilla. A 17km drive from Bariloche, you will find Mount Campanario, where you can take a chairlift and enjoy the incredible views of the surrounding forests, lakes and mountains.
Day 6 Bariloche - Puerto Varas (Lakes Crossing)
Cross the border from Argentina into Chile on a spectacular journey by road and boat crossing the Andes Mountains. Take in the magnificent landscapes, with verdant forests and snowy peaks, as well as sailing across shimmering lakes. Your full day of travel between Bariloche and Puerto Varas takes you across quiet and unspoilt waters, and past some of the majestic Volcanoes of the region. You also have a stop at the Petrohue waterfalls, where volcanic rock is bathed by green waterfalls before arriving at the small town of Puerto Varas overlooking Lake Llanquihue. Sat in the shadow of the Osorno and Calbuco Volcanoes, this charming German-influenced town is the ideal base for exploring the area.
Day 7 Puerto Varas - Chile
One of the most beautiful regions in the country the Lake District boasts snow-capped volcanoes, pristine lakes, waterfalls and virgin forests. Today you are taken out with a guide to see the majestic Osorno Volcano. Ascend the volcano for spectacular panoramic views across the region.
Day 8 Chilean Lake District - Torres del Paine
Depart the Lake District to perhaps what could be considered as the highlight of Patagonia – Torres del Paine National Park. Fly to Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales (flight schedule dependent) and transfer by road to the park. Spend the next three nights here and choose from a variety of daily excursions to explore this world renowned National Park.
Day 9 Torres del Paine National Park
With a dramatic landscape of mountain peaks, roaring rivers, sparkling blue lakes and rich emerald forests; the views here are breath taking. Visitors never fail to be impressed by their first glimpse of the “Los Cuernos” or the “Horns” – three granite pillars soaring more than 2000m above the Patagonian Steppe. The next couple of days are for you to choose from the menu of excursions of offer at your lodge, and explore stunning and far reaching National Park.

Day 11 Torres del Paine - El Calafate (Argentina)
Travel by road and cross the border into Argentina. Arrive in the afternoon to El Calafate, in the heart of Argentine Patagonia, the perfect base to explore the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares (Glaciers National Park) - a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. This is a land of colossal mountain ranges crowned in snow and pristine glaciers descending into turquoise lakes.
Day 12 Perito Moreno Glacier
Visit the Los Glaciares National Park and most importantly, the El Perito Moreno Glacier. A huge river of ice 30km long and 5km wide, descends from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field to Lago Argentino. As it advances, the ice cracks and produces thunderous roars that reverberate from deep within the glacier, producing a hugely impressive show. Walking along the paths in front of its western wall allows you to admire this natural wonder from different viewpoints and get a sense of the size of this enormous wall of ice.
Day 13 El Calafate - Buenos Aires
Fly to Buenos Aires today for your final night in Argentina. This evening, for a last highlights in Buenos Aires, enjoy an intimate and exclusive tango show in a stunning ballroom in San Telmo. The Tango showcases the best of folkloric dance and song along with a gourmet a la carte dinner accompanied by exclusive Argentine wines.

You have the day at leisure until at the agreed time you are collected and taken to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
