Cape Town to Dar Es Salaam on Rovos Rail

From £6,400 per person

On board the Rovos Rail you will take a luxurious 14 day, 13 night trip from Cape Town to Dar Es Salaam (available vice versa), stopping off and spending the night at the Madikwe Game Reserve and the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe! For a great combination of rail travel, a mini safari and seeing the falls jump on board the Rovos Rail!

Itinerary

On this trip you will visit:
  • Cape Town
  • Tanzania Coast
  • Victoria Falls
Day 1
Cape Town
You will depart from Cape Town station on the Pride of Africa and arrive in the early evening in Matjiesfontein where you will visit the village.
Day 2
Kimberley
On arrival in Kimberley in the early afternoon you will visit the Big Hole and Diamond Mine Museum. At 4pm, the train will pass by a shallow lake where a group of Lesser Flamingos can be seen.
Day 3
Pretoria
At 11:30am you will arrive in Pretoria and have lunch at the Rovos Rail station. Afterwards you will take a city tour and leave at 6pm for Zeerust.
Day 4
Zeerust
In the morning you will leave the train at Zeerust for a two night stay at Tau Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve where you will enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Day 5
Madikwe Game Reserve
Today you will enjoy two game drives and activities.
Day 6
Madikwe Game Reserve - Rovos Rail
After another game drive you will return to the Rovos Rail and depart for Botswana.
Day 7
Zimbabwe
Today you will travel through Zimbabwe and lectures will be given by a historian.
Day 8
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Today you will transfer to the hotel at Victoria Falls where you will enjoy lunch and a sunset cruise on the Zambezi river. (Spend the night at the hotel).
Day 9
Victoria Falls - Rovos Rail
You can choose how you spend today, you could; enjoy a tour of the Victoria Falls, go on a helicopter ride or for the more adventurous go river rafting. You will rejoin the train in the afternoon.
Day 10
Lusaka
Today you will travel through Lusaka and lectures will be given by a historian.
Day 11
Rovos Rail
Today you will travel through Serenje and Mpika and lectures will be given by a historian.
Day 12
Kasama
You will leave the train at Kasama and go on a bush walk to Chisimba Falls. After lunch the train will travel towards Tunduma.
Day 13
Mlimba
In the morning you will leave the train at Makambako and go to Mlimba. The rest of the day will be spent on board the train with lectures provided by the historian.
Day 14
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
You will disembark from the train at Dar es Salaam in the morning.
