This wonderful East Africa escape combines the safari experience in two contrasting ecosystems in Kenya, followed by exploration of Stone Town and ending with down time by the beach on lovely Chumbe Island.

On safari you'll stay at classic, small and tastefully designed bush camps and you'll be taken care of by expert guides. Amboseli Porini Camp offers both the enormous elephant herds of the national reserve and a private bush experience.

At Porini Mara Camp, you can watch the abundant game of  the legendary Masai Mara.

In Zanzibar explore the ancient streets and alleys of historic Stone Town and then relax on the highly-praised Chumbe Island Lodge.

Itinerary

Depart from London Heathrow on the Kenya Airways overnight flight to Nairobi.
On arrival into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport early this morning, you will be welcomed and transferred in a comfortably 4-wheel drive vehicle to the Selenkay Conservation Area. Arrive at Porini Camp before lunch and check in for your 2-night stay with all meals, game activities and park fees included. Selenkay Conservancy is located 10 miles to the north of the boundary of Amboseli National Park, with which it shares the same eco-system/habitat types. Selenkay covers 14,000 acres of land within the nearly 200,000- acre Eselenkei Group Rancht, leased from the local Maasai by Gamewatchers Safaris. The project's aim is to protect the original habitats and to encourage wildlife conservation as a means for the resident communities to earn a living, instead of farming. Porini Amboseli Camp, deep in the heart of Selenkay Conservancy, is part of the the Porini group of camps set up by Gamewatchers Safaris in some of the conservancies in Kenya which Gamewatchers were instrumental in establishing. The camp’s remote location off the main tourist trail means that the the wildlife sees less vehicle traffic and therefore, behaves in a more natural manner. What's very appealing is that the camp accommodates only 18 guests at a time, who are able to benefit from the knowledge and experience of the Maasai employed as game rangers; trackers and camp staff.
Enjoy your safari in the Selenkay Conservation Area and Amboseli National Park Migrating species from Amboseli that had previously been killed or driven off land which was set aside for farming, have been encouraged to find sanctuary in the conservancy: recent years have witnessed a marvellous increase in wildlife numbers, with African elephants having returned after a 20-year absence. Expect to see African lions, Cheetahs and Leopards, along with Bat- eared fox, Mongooses and Porcupine at night. There are Giraffe, Thomson and Grant’s gazelles; Lesser kudu, Gerenuk and many more interesting mammals. Birdlife is prolific, particularly in the marshy and swampy areas. Over 420 species have been counted within the region as a whole including an incredible 6 species of Vulture.
After an early morning game drive and brunch, travel overland to Nairobi in time for lunch (to own account). You will be taken to Wilson Airport for the afternoon flight to the Masai Mara, where you will be welcomed on arrival by your guide for a game drive transfer across the plains to Porini Mara Camp in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy. Stay 3 nights at the lovely Porini Mara Camp with all meals, game activities and park fees included. Shortly afterwards, set off on a late afternoon game drive till sunset.
Porini Mara Camp is a non-seasonal safari camp set in Ol Kinyei Conservancy – an 18700 acre wilderness set aside as a wildlife sanctuary with a wide variety of species including big cats. The area has open plains, forests, rivers and stunning views. This setting provides the ultimate African safari holiday adventure in an unspoilt area, away from the crowds. Safari game drives can also be taken in the nearby Maasai Mara National Reserve and the adjacent Naboisho Conservancy.
Staying at   Porini Mara Camp
Enjoy more safari activities today in Ol Kinyei and/or the Mara National Reserve. Kenya’s game reserves also host a Wildebeest Migration from the Loita Plains to the Mara, which moves into Ol Kinyei Conservancy earlier, usually by January, and the calving takes place there during February and March when the plains of the Conservancy are teeming with Blue wildebeest before they move through the Naboisho Conservancy and into the Olare Motorogi Conservancy. The Wildebeest are not the only tenants of the land - the Mara is also the home to among others, Zebra, Elephants, and to the big cats; Cheetahs, Lions and Leopards. Cape buffalo, Eland, Topi, Impala, Gazelle,Warthog and Spotted hyena, among others, add to the huge diversity of wildlife present.
Staying at   Porini Mara Camp
After lunch, transfer to the airstrip for the afternoon flight arriving into Nairobi Wilson Airport just after midday. Connect onto the early evening flight to Zanzibar. Transfer upon arrival into Stone Town for a 2-night stay at Zanzibar Palace Hotel, breakfast included
Today you can relax, or go sightseeing around Zanzibar. We highly recommend a trip to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, where among other species you can see the (Endangered) Zanzibar Colobus, the park's flagship species. There are also plenty of other interesting species about, including many birds and colourful butterflies which can be sought while completing the forest walk, as well as a peek into the mangroves. Do let us know if you're keen to visit Jozani and we'll add it to your tour price with pleasure.
After breakfast you will be transferred to Mbweni ruins for the short boat transfer to Chumbe Island. Stay 3 nights in an eco-bungalow at Chumbe Island Lodge, all meals, soft drinks, guided nature walks and guided snorkelling included.
Staying at   Chumbe Island Lodge
Chumbe is a small Indian Ocean island lying between Zanzibar and the Tanzanian coast. Recognised for both its beauty and biodiversity, this is a castaway island with a reef sanctuary (400 species of fish and 200 species of coral) a forest reserve and evocative historical buildings
Staying at   Chumbe Island Lodge
More time to savour the magic of Chumbe Island.
Staying at   Chumbe Island Lodge
Transfer to Zanzibar airport for the afternoon flight to Nairobi where you connect with the Kenya Airways overnight flight to London
Arrive home after a wonderful Africa experience!
