A wonderful tailor-made tour which takes you to visit the endangered Mountain gorillas and also gives you the chance to see something more of Rwanda's beautiful and varied landscapes. Order of locations visited can be switched in order to fit around availability of gorilla permits.
Travel to Parc National des Volcans for two nights stay. Here you will be tracking Mounain gorillas. You can also partake in a variety of other activities, all of which start at 07h00: you might wish to visit the Golden monkeys, or do a nature walk for small wildlife and fantastic birdlife including many of the sought-after Albertine Rift Endemics ('ARE's), or if you are energetic, you could make the trek to Dian Fossey's tomb.
Then travel west to the scenic and high altitude Lake Kivu. On the way, stop by at Imbazazi, which gained international recognition thanks to decades of work by the late Madame Rosamond Carr.
Return to Kigali for the last night, staying at Kigali Serena hotel, and take a city tour in one of Africa's most interesting and delightful capital cities.

Check in at London Heathrow (or selected other UK airports) for the overnight flight to Kigali.
Kigali - Parc National des Volcans
On arrival in Kigali off the overnight Kenya Airways flight via Nairobi (alternatively contact us if you would like to fly on other carriers), you will be met and assisted by your professional driver-guide. Depart for Musanze to stay 2 nights at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, all meals included. (Drive time is 2 hours).
Parc National des Volcans
An early start: after breakfast you will be taken to the ORTPN Park Headquarters at 07h00 for a briefing on conduct during gorilla tracking. Experienced trackers then lead you into the forested slopes to seek one of the habituated bands of Mountain gorilla.
Reaching the gorillas can be as quick as 30 minutes, or it can take a few hours. Few wildlife experiences in the world can compare with this - it is absolutely incredible: superlatives just do not cut it when trying to describe being among these gentle but endangered giants.
In the afternoon, visit the panoramic twin volcanic lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. (Time allowing)
Food at the lodge is now rated as very good.
Parc National des Volcans - Lake Kivu
Today you could do a second optional gorilla tracking excursion, or choose from one of the following optional activities: a nature walk in Parc National des Volcans (excellent birding); seek the Golden monkeys, a rare relative of the more widespread Blue monkey; visit Dian Fossey's tomb, or climb the volcano Mt Bisoke. The last two activities are suitable for those who are reasonably fit.
After your gorilla trek, drive you to Gisenyi (3 hours) stopping by at Imbazazi, to stay overnight at the Kivu Serena on the shores of Lake Kivu
, all meals included.
Gisenyi is a somewhat faded lakeside resort which is also a border crossing point into the Congo. The shoreside is lined with crumbling colonial villas. Kivu Serena is a pleasant hotel, right on the lakeside, with a large, private pool.

You have a Kigali city tour today and visit the Genocide Memorial Museum. The city tour includes the old town (Nyamirambo) and Muslim quarter, the new handicraft village and other shops, the Batwa pottery and dance centre and the Gisozi Genocide Memorial. The memorial is very moving - the tour takes a couple of hours - and will be of interest to anyone who has spent some time in this enchanting country.
This afternoon you will be taken to the airport for your return flight to London Heathrow via Nairobi.
