Savour the highlights of Botswana in a fully serviced mobile safari with en-suite tents, exploring the wildlife- rich Moremi Game Reserve; fringes of the incredible Okavango Delta and the famous Chobe River front.
This small group trip, usually operating with a maximum of 7 participants, runs Maun to Kasane and vice versa, with weekly departure dates staying in private campsites.
Memorable experiences include mokoro boat trips; observing the Okavango delta from a light aircraft flight, and a boat cruise in the Chobe River.
Itinerary
Day 1 Depart from London Heathrow on over...
Depart from London Heathrow on overnight flight to Johannesburg.
Day 2 Xakanaxa, Okavango Delta
On arrival early morning, connect onto onward flight to Maun in Botswana. Light aircraft flight into the Okavango Delta where your guide awaits, for your 3 nights camping in the Xakanaxa region.
Days are filled with morning and afternoon game drives, this area is very well known for its predator sightings and excellent birding.
Day 3 Xakanaxa - Moremi Game Reserve
Explore the Moremi, through the vast open flood plains to the papyrus fringed channels, with the variety of habitat comes diverse and varying wildlife.
Moremi is one of the best wildlife reserves in Africa for seeing wild dog in particular. Lion are often seen as are huge heard of buffalo.
Look out for the Red Lechwe, a very unusual antelope that is found here.
Day 4 Xakanaxa - Moremi
While mammal-watchers visiting Okavango and Moremi are in for an absolute bonanza, birders too, will be in their element: while exploring along the waterways, keep an eye out for sought-after species such as the rare and spectacular Wattled crane (pictured), Slaty egret and of course, more widely distributed iconic African wetland birds including Goliath heron, Saddle-billed stork, African fish eagle, African skimmer and African and Lesser jacanas.
Day 5 Mababe Area, Okavango Delta
Depart in a north easterly direction for the Mababe and Khwai Areas, journey will take about 3-4 hours, on this moving day we will do a mokoro excursion in the calmer back waters of the Khwai and Mbudi channels. Once we arrive at our newly set up camp we will stay in this area for 3 nights with morning and afternoon game drives stretching into the evening where the spotlight offers the opportunity to see some of the many, fascinating nocturnal animals which find a home here.
We actually rate Botswana as one of the most rewarding destinations in Africa for those keen on spotting nocturnal wildlife - there is plenty to see, including the likes of African leopard, African wildcat, African civet, Spring hare, Cape porcupine and lucky visitors may even see an Aardvark. Nocturnal birds most often seen include Giant eagle owl (Africa's biggest owl; pictured here) and Fiery-necked nightjar.
Day 6 Mababe Exploration days
Enjoy the opportunities to take guided bush walks as well as activities by Mokoro, the traditional dugout canoes used to explore the winding waterways in Okavango, which is one of the world's natural wonders.
The area is renowned for its healthy populations of African elephant, African lion, African leopard and a variety of ungulates including Tssessebe, Sable and Roan antelopes.
Day 7 Mababe Exploration days
With only a max of 20 vehicles allowed on this concession at any given time, does make the campsite feel more exclusive. Being outside of the Moremi Game Reserve itself means that walking and night drives are both possible.
While once again mammal watchers will be constantly busy, birders too will be in their element, with noteworthy species including raptors such as Bateleur and the majestic, endangered Martial Eagle (pictured).
Day 8 Savuti Marsh
Continue north to the Savuti Marsh, which takes about 4-5 hours, for a 3 night stay to explore the area by game drives and the chance to see some of the many San paintings in the area.
Day 9 Savuti And Chobe National Park
This wilderness area is appreciated for, among others, excellent Lion and Elephant sightings. The largely flat Savuti has sizeable outcrops of volcanic rock that claw up out of the Kalahari sands. The Savuti Marsh has always been a great attraction for wildlife enthusiasts, as the channel links up with waterholes creating a much-utilised meeting point for a wonderful assortment of animals seeking water
Day 10 Savuti Marsh - Chobe National Marsh
The Savuti Marsh is exceptionally rewarding for nature enthusiasts keen on birding. Look out for the likes of Kori bustard (the heaviest of all flying birds, pictured); Tawney eagles and Black -cheeked waxbill, to name just a few!
Day 11 Early departure for the Chobe River...
Early departure for the Chobe River with picnic lunch en-route, journey taking about 5 hours in time for your onward return overnight flight to London Heathrow via Johannesburg
Would suggest you continue to the Victoria Falls or an extra few night in the Chobe or perhaps start with a desert experience in the Kalahari / Makgadikgadi.
