December 2020 Eclipse tour with Hilary Bradt

Argentina      Chile

This one-off and exclusive trip departs the UK on Thursday 10th December and lands back on Monday 22st December 2020. The trip starts off in Buenos Aires before heading south towards the Argentine lake district in order to give the best possible chance of seeing the Solar Eclipse. The group has three days in the beautiful area around San Martin de los Andes, and on the 14th December, the day of the Eclipse, the group is based in the zone of totality, at a private property close to Junín de Los Andes.

Continuing through the Lake District region the tour takes the scenic route across the border into Chile for a night on the shores of Lago Llanquihue, at the lakeside town of Puerto Varas. We then visit the remote and mysterious Island of Chiloé, with three days to explore the natural, cultural and historical highlights of the Island, taking in some of the lesser known Reserves with our local guide. After a comprehensive exploration of Chiloé, fly north up to Chile's capital city of Santiago, for two nights.

If you wish to be away for an additional week, we also have the option to extend the itinerary for the unique experience of Christmas Day on the Falkalnd Islands. This one week on the Falklands Archipelago, stays on three different Islands and takes in the most abundant wildlife areas. Possible highlights include the King Penguins at Volunteer Point, Elephant seals basking at the aptly named Elephant Corner, and the chance to see Killer Whales just off shore from the lodge bar on Sea Lion Island. After your week long extension return to Santiago for flights back to the UK, having had Christmas Day in Port Stanley, with a traditional festive lunch in a South Atlantic Ocean setting.
