This privately protected parcel of tropical dry deciduous forest has much the same wildlife as Ankarafantsika, with the addition of innumerable Baobabs of three species, and even groves of cycads at Moromba Bay. By day, visitors can expect to see Coquerel’s sifaka and Common brown lemurs, while at night noisy Lepilemurs and mouse lemurs of at least two species, notably the recently described Danfoss’s mouse lemur, are commonly encountered.
Birding is rewarding, with critically endangered rarities including Madagascar fish eagle and in the mangroves, Madagascar white ibis. The forest’s rich herpetofauna includes the 2 ½ foot-long Oustalet’s chameleon, largest of this fascinating family of lizards which has its epicenter in Madagascar. The forest has well mapped trails and circuits which can take anything from 2 hours to a full day to complete. Nocturnal walks are included in the lodge’s rates.
