City Tour Addis Ababa

You will be collected from your hotel by your guide and driver. (Time to be advised locally). Your city highlights tour will include 3 – 4 stops and can be adapted with your guide to suit your interests. Founded in 1886 by Emperor Menelik II, Addis Ababa the seat of the African Union (AU). It is the world’s third highest-lying capital and one of the largest cities in Africa, with a population exceeding 5 million. Climate is enjoyable year round, with an average temperature of 16 degrees. The city has wide avenues lined with Jacarandas; interesting museums, impressive churches and one of the continent’s largest open-air market districts in Africa. Most visitors want to include a stop at the National Museum, which houses many archaeological and historical exhibits including the complete hominid fossil remains of ‘Lucy’,  known locally as ‘Dinknesh’ which means ‘wonderful’. Arguably the most impressive church is the Trinity Cathedral, appreciated for its baroque- style architecture,  unique to Ethiopia and to the African continent, and dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Here are found scripts of the imperial families; statues by a Greek sculpture; stained glass window paintings of scenes from the Old and New Testaments and coffins of Emperor Haile Selassie I (founder of the church) and of his wife. End with a visit to Mt Entoto Park, which overlooks the capital.
