Experience Highlights

  • Duration: Half day

Selvatura’s treetop walkways provide the best way to safely admire the cloud forest. The treetop walkways tour consists of 1.9 miles of trails. The visitors will walk on eight bridges of various lengths, ranging between 170 feet and 560 feet. 90% of the walk leads through virgin rainforest and the visitors will be able to appreciate a wide variety of flora and fauna. The treetop walkways are part of the same forest than the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, with the difference that Selvatura Park is located on the Atlantic side and Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is located on the Pacific side. The flora and fauna in both parks is very similar.

Selvatura Park also offers one of the largest butterfly gardens in the Americas. A great dome structure with a perfect temperature is necessary to enable the garden to host more than 50 different species of butterflies from different altitudes and climates found throughout Costa Rica. Guides will provide an interesting tour and will answer all the questions regarding these beautiful creatures. Visitors will learn about the life-cycle of butterflies and moths and will also learn many interesting facts about butterflies in general. In addition to that they will have very close contact to the beautiful butterflies, including the blue Morpho Peleides.

At the hummingbird garden the visitors will observe more than 14 different species of hummingbirds, including a few species that are not commonly seen in other areas of Monteverde. At the garden the relaxing waterfall and the beautiful natural floral arrangements provide a perfect setting for natural photography lovers.
