Although famed for its unique wildlife, Madagascar and its offshore islands offer visitors a wonderful choice of breathtaking sandy beaches and fine reefs. The Nosy Be Archipelago lying off the northwest coast is awash with bays and secluded coves, whilst Ile Ste Marie (Nosy Boraha) in the east, has miles of sandy beaches shaded by palm trees, and is one of the best place to whale watch in Madagascar. Less well known, but no less stunning, are the beaches in the south near Fort Dauphin. Most trips to Madagascar combine wildlife touring with time soaking up the rays.
