Borneo's extensive rainforests offer superb opportunities for nature enthusiasts keen on getting to know a wonderful assemblage of wildlife. Its 13 primate species include Orangutan, Proboscis monkeys, Tarsiers and Slow lorises. During wildlife drives, walks or boat cruises by day or night, visitors can encounter the likes of Bornean pygmy elephant; Banteng; Leopard cat and an assortment of oddities from Binturong ('bear-cat') to Giant flying squirrels. The island's long bird list includes 8 species of hornbill and a variety of colourful Pittas, Trogons, Flowepeckers and Sunbirds. Keen botanists will be in their element, as the rainforests are festooned with a myriad Orchids and a large variety of Pitcherplants, as well as unmistakeable plants such as the Rafflesia.
