Spring arrives in southern Africa – it’s dry and getting warmer; the lack of water and vegetation makes this prime game-viewing season, as game concentrates around water sources. This is especially the case in the Kruger area of South Africa and in Botswana.
It is spring too in South Africa’s Cape, there are many bright sunny days, and the temperature is rising. But the weather is still very changeable, and the temperature plummets when a depression passes through.
In East Africa large herds have migrated into Kenya’s Masai Mara, in Tanzania the Serengeti is dry and animals are seeking permanent water. A good time to see large herds of elephant in Tarangire.
All Indian Ocean islands and coastal destinations are good and getting hotter.
Madagascar is perfect for wildlife viewing and for time on the beach.
If hiking is your thing, September is a great month to attempt Peru’s iconic Inca Trail. The weather is still good and the crowds will have thinned as the Autumn school terms kicks in.
