Stay the night: Diana Dea Lodge, Réunion

Stay the night: Diana Dea Lodge, Réunion

Following a recent visit to beautiful Réunion Island, Travel Specialist Laura shares her experiences of the four-star Diana Dea Lodge, tucked away on a hillside in Sainte Anne.

On arrival at the Diana Dea Lodge I was amazed to see a herd of dear in the grounds, totally unexpected. We then drove up the long and winding drive to arrive at the hotel. The hotel is set in 150 hectares of former hunting land. Allowing lots of areas to explore and to spot the deer. The hotel is impressively sat 650 metres above sea level. It overlooks the Indian Ocean and the entire East Coast of Reunion.

The manager, Bertrand was waiting for us and welcomed us to the hotel, alongside his French Bulldog, Ralph, who was very happy to see us.

We were shown to our rooms. The hotel has 30 rooms (6 standard, 18 superior, 5 privilege and one honeymoon suite). I was delighted to have been given a superior room on the ground floor, overlooking the Indian Ocean. One of the room's most lovely features is the bath, whcih also enjoys a panoramic sea view. If you are really quiet, you may spot one or two deer grazing in the garden area.

Once we had settled in and had experienced a dip in the heated infinity pool we were welcomed by the manager on the decking for a cocktail and canapes. The atmosphere of the hotel is lovely - very serene and relaxing.

We went through to the stunning dining room, which again offered incredible views. The whole hotel has been designed to take in the views from every angle. The food was out of this world, a three-course meal of Caesar salad, duck and a white chocolate and raspberry souffle.

After the meal, guests have the option to relax in the bar area with an open fire in the middle as the focal point.

The whole hotel blew me away. From the views to the service and the atmosphere. It is definitely somewhere I will be returning to. It is on the less-popular East coast of the Island but it is somewhere I completely recommend including in your Reunion holiday, either at the beginning of your trip to relax after the journey or end of your stay if you'd like to chill out a little after taking part in some of the many activities the island has to offer.

Given the intimate feel of the hotel and the serenity, I would certainly recommend this property to couples and honeymooners looking for a special or romantic getaway. Children are welcome here, however, I feel this would alter the overall effect of peace and tranquillity that the hotel is striving for.

A very brief stay, but definitely and memorable one and one I hope to repeat one day!
