Breezes Beach Club & Spa is a family-run, high quality resort hotel about an hours drive across the island from Stone Town.

The resort offers guests a winning combination of good facilities and a relaxed and friendly environment. Set in fragrant, colourful gardens beside an untouched beach on the 10-kilometre long Michamvi Peninsula, Breezes is in the north east of Zanzibar.

Few local people live on the peninsula and there are only six hotels, so you will find miles of palm-fringed, white sand beach, great diving and lots of space.

Accommodation

The 70 rooms are grouped in villas set in landscaped gardens. The spacious rooms are elegantly furnished and equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, a refrigerator and safe. All rooms are identical in décor and have a sofa which can become a third bed, as well as a private terrace or a balcony.

The 20 suites are on the upper floor of the villas and have a large balcony equipped with sun beds, as well as a walk-in dressing room and larger bathroom. The 40 deluxe and 10 standard rooms are on the ground floor and have a terrace. The standard rooms are set further away from the sea and have a garden view. Deluxe rooms and suites are closer to the sea, but Breezes does not guarantee a sea-view.

Food

A delicious breakfast buffet is served in the main restaurant. Lunch can be taken at Breakers, the beachfront restaurant, where snacks and light meals are available throughout the day. The main restaurant serves a four-course dinner or a themed buffet enlivened by local cultural entertainment. With a stunning view of the ocean, The Makuti à la carte restaurant serves seafood in an intimate, candlelit ambience or you can enjoy truly personal service in The Tides, a private beachfront restaurant for two. If you have your heart set on dinner at The Tides, ask us to book a table before you travel.

Facilities

A large free-form swimming pool is surrounded by the main buildings, which house two bars, the restaurants, and a lounge, where afternoon tea is served. Facilities include floodlit tennis courts, a pool table, television room and a shopping bazaar. The well-equipped fitness centre also offers aerobics and African dance classes. There is also a yoga and meditation centre.

Marine activities

The Rising Sun Dive Centre is located between the pool and the beach. This friendly 5-star PADI dive centre is well-equipped and operates to the highest standards, catering for beginners as well as advanced divers. There is a range of other water sports on offer, too. From Breezes, you can go deep-sea fishing - for tuna, kingfish, barracuda and marlin - with experienced crew. The chef will be glad to prepare your catch for dinner. You can explore the mangroves from a traditional boat, made from the trunk of a mango tree, or search for dolphins on board a dhow. There are daily snorkelling trips to the lagoon, and snorkelling equipment is available. There are charges for these activities.

The Frangipani Spa

The purpose-built spa is staffed by professional therapists and offers a variety of health and beauty treatments combining therapies from the Orient, Mediterranean, Africa and Asia. A wide array of massage techniques designed to relieve you of the stress and strain of modern living or to relax after a safari. Facilities include a steam room and a beautiful and soothing tiled room in the style of a sultan’s bath house, with a central plunge pool. Couples should book a massage for two and follow it with some private time in here.

Excursions

Nearby Jozani Forest contains a variety of bird species and offers the opportunity to see the rare Red Colobus monkey, indigenous to Zanzibar. Take a trip to one of the spice plantations, or visit the village of Bwejuu, where you learn about traditional Zanzibari life – and the proceeds go to a fund that benefits the village.
