Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge is an innovative and intimate, family-owned and run, 5-star safari lodge in the Sabi Sand, part of South Africa’s greater Kruger National Park.
Overlooking a large lake that draws a constant stream of thirsty animals, Chitwa Chitwa offers luxury accommodation and an intense safari experience at particularly attractive prices for a South Africa holiday.
Chitwa Chitwa is located in the northeastern sector of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, a lovely wild area of undulating hills and kopjes, unspoiled by the telephone wires and power cables that mar some of the western areas.
The hotel's eight suites are individually designed, but all make use of natural colours and materials in harmony with the surrounding bush.
Each suite has a private plunge pool and timber deck from which you can observe the wildlife as it comes to drink from the lake. If you want a totally private safari experience, Chitwa House has two en suite bedrooms, a private butler and a dedicated ranger, so you set the pace.
Food & Dining
Head Chef, Marc van Rooyen, comes from Singita and the food is sensational: varied, contemporary, imaginative, healthy and varied. Lunch is often served on the pool deck, dinner in the restaurant or under the stars and you can dine in your suite or on your verandah; but you will find that the settings for meals are almost as creative as the menu.
Activities
You will have an early morning and late afternoon/evening game drive each day. Safari vehicles are open Landrovers and your game drives will be guided by a professional ranger and tracker. You may see enormous buffalo herds, breeding herds of elephant and bull elephants swimming in the lake, lion prides, rhino grazing on the open plains or wallowing in waterholes, as well as a variety of herbivores. Leopard is seen on most game drives. After the morning game drive and breakfast, you will have the opportunity to take a bush walk with your ranger. The pure sounds and scents of the bush, the opportunity to take a close look make it quite an experience. You can also visit the village of Dixie, just beyond Gowrie Gate, with field guide Chris Sebuye.
Facilities
Between game activities, you can continue your game viewing from your deck or from the main deck, where you will find day-beds and shade is provided by ancient knobthorn trees. You can continue your game viewing from the restaurant and the main lounge area or enjoy the rim-flow pool. The library is well-stocked with reference books and a variety of novels. Internet access is available in the library. The resident masseuse provides in-room massage and therapies.
Families
Children are welcome at Chitwa Chitwa and the lodge offers a special Chitwa Children’s Eco-experience for younger guests. For the security and enjoyment of all guests, children 6 – 12 may join game drives at the discretion of the guides.
