For visitors who wish to spend some time exploring the remarkable Konso region during their holiday to Ethiopia, our accommodation of choice is Kanta Lodge.
28 round bungalows or 'tukuls' and the main restaurant building stand on a hilltop overlooking panoramic vistas including the characteristic, terraced hillsides of this area.
The lodge is fairly simple; bungalows have en-suite bathrooms with shower. Mosquito netting is provided. The restaurant is excellent, with a key selling point being the outdoor patio around a very large wild fig tree, which when bearing fruit, attracts plenty of birdlife. There is an extensive menu which includes Italian and traditional recipes - we loved it (May/June 2016 visit), and recommend their rizotto.
The property adheres to strict eco-friendly practice, utilising solar power and recycling all waste water. It has a kitchen garden where fruit, veggies and herbs are cultivated and there is also livestock and poultry on the property.
