Kenya Family Holidays

‘Safari’ means ‘journey’ in Swahili and it is in Kenya that the safari began and continues to flourish. This remarkable country has some of the most dramatic game viewing in Africa, including the famous migration of a million wildebeest in the Masai Mara. Five coastal marine reserves and 48 national parks conserve Kenya’s rich natural heritage. The Masai Mara is Kenya’s iconic game-viewing destination, but the remote wilderness of Laikipia and Meru, the dazzling birdlife of the Rift Valley lakes, the beauty of Amboseli, the stark splendour of Shaba and the grandeur of Mount Kenya are among Kenya’s lesser-known gems.

Cultural diversity

Kenya's safari experience is enriched not only by the diverse and spectacular landscapes, but by the vibrant cultures of the Maasai and Samburu peoples. The coast is fringed with wide sandy beaches and coral reefs, lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. It is stamped with the legacy of the Arab and Indian traders who, from the 9th century, were the external impetus for a vibrant Swahili culture, which continues to this day. Lamu’s importance as a Swahili centre is recognised in its World Heritage Site status and remains of Swahili settlements can be found all along the coast.

Kenya safari holidays

There is an enormous choice of safaris and holidays in Kenya and we aim to help you make the right choice for the occasion. A number of camps provide relaxation and pampering amidst stunning landscapes, and you can do a safari followed by time on the beach. You can visit the famous reserves or go off the beaten track to experience untouched African wilderness – and still have good game viewing. Our specialists will be pleased to advise you.

Getting around

An efficient flight network connects all regions of Kenya and most of our clients fly between the reserves. At each camp or lodge, experienced guides with local knowledge lead game drives in customised or open 4WD vehicles in order to maximise game viewing and opportunities for photography.

Nairobi

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi is the entry point for most visitors, and this, along with the Wilson domestic airport, forms the hub for regional flights. Consequently, most travellers spend some time in Nairobi during their holiday. You can stay in one of the lovely country-house hotels in Karen, or at a colonial landmark hotel, such as the Norfolk, in the town centre. Upmarket boutique hotels have opened recently.

Pricing on our Kenya Safari Holidays

Fully inclusive prices for safari lodges and camps in Kenya usually include all meals, local drinks and most scheduled safari activities. Daily park fees are excluded.
