Start your journey in Lake Manyara National Park, a part of the world that Ernest Hemingway remarked as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. Although this is one of the country’s smaller parks, stretching for 50km along the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park is full of diverse habitats which offer a microcosm of Tanzania safari experiences. The dense woodlands are home to the famous tree-climbing lions, bold baboon troops, and beautiful blue monkeys - amongst many others. As you look to the east, your gaze is met, at first, with an alkaline lake which sways with the movements of the vibrant pink clouds of flamingo on their migration, and then with the volcanic peaks that rise from the Maasai Steppes. Vast herds of elephants, buffalo and zebra may be found on the grass plains, alongside giraffe, some of which are so uniquely dark in colouration that they appear black from the distance.
The next wildlife paradise on this holiday is the Ngorongoro Crater, a gigantic collapsed volcano which has created the perfect arena in which to watch Tanzania’s captivating wildlife. Species often spotted here include wildebeest, lion, elephant, gazelle and leopard. Observe this abundance of wildlife on a morning game drive and then admire the wildlife scattered across the beautiful landscape whilst enjoying a relaxing sun-downer back at camp.
Visiting the Western Serengeti is an experience that stays with you for the rest of your life. From the summit of Naabi Hill at the park’s entrance, you are met with the Serengeti’s expansive grasslands which run for as far as the eye can see. This is the home of the great migration, where an epic movement of animals in their millions takes place each year to the rhythm of Africa’s seasons. This is one of the wildest places on earth and you may spot the mighty lion, proud buffalo and elephant as you roam the endless plains in a 4x4 safari vehicle.
