Kruger safari & KwaZulu Natal beach self-drive

This trip packs in so much into a week that you'll feel you've had a much longer holiday! It's a safari on the sunny, east side of South Africa in a reserve that adjoins Kruger Park, and also a wonderful scenic drive though Swaziland and beyond to the beautiful untouched Kosi Bay on the Indian Ocean. This holiday works for everyone who enjoys an adventure and the open road... you can even fit it into a half-term week making it a great family option too. For those who like to feel they are making a small difference as well as having the time of their lives, the camps and lodges on this trip have impressive conservation and responsible tourism polices.

Itinerary

Day 1
Depart London Heathrow in the evening on a South African Airways flight to Johannesburg.
Days 2 - 4
Timbavati Game Reserve
Arrive Johannesburg early morning and transfer onto a flight to Hoedspruit where you pick up your hire car (Honda FRV or Renault Scenic people carrier) with comprehensive insurance and unlimited mileage.

Drive about 1.5 hours into the Timbavati to spend 3 nights at Umlani Bush Camp, fully inclusive of all meals, scheduled AM and PM game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and guided bush walks.

If you wish, you can sleep out in a tree house on the second night, book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Day 5
Kruger National Park
Enter Kruger Park and take a leisurely full day drive south through the park, game-viewing en-route to reach Lower Sabie rest camp, where you overnight, room only. The rest camp has a restaurant where your evening meal can be taken.
Day 6
Kruger - Swaziland
Leave Kruger at Crocodile Bridge. Enter Swaziland to stay in a stone cottage at Mkhaya Game Reserve, including all meals and game drives. Driving time about 5 hours.
Days 7 - 9
Kosi Bay
Drive south into KwaZulu Natal (2-3 hours) to meet your guide for your three-night escorted safari into the Kosi Bay area by the Indian Ocean.


You stay at Amangwane Camp in simple reed huts (with private facilities) and our expert local guides take you through this natural wonderland with a choice of exciting activities including canoeing, spear-fishing, snorkelling etc. All meals are included.


Alternatively, you can upgrade and spend this time at the Rocktail Bay Lodge or Thonga Beach Lodge, ask your consultant for supplement costs.
Day 10
Kosi-Bay to Durban
Return your hire car at Durban airport and check-in in the late afternoon for flight to Johannesburg. On arrival, transfer onto overnight flight to London. Driving time about 5 hours.
Day 11
Arrive London Heathrow early morning
