Cape Town to Cairo on Rovos Rail 2014

If you are looking to explore many countries in Africa and are fortunate enough to have about a month to do so, then this 27-night Rovos Rail journey from Cape Town, South Africa to Egypt is a real dream come true! You will visit South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan and Egypt, spending a combination of nights on board the luxury train and in top quality hotels.

Itinerary

On this trip you will visit:

Day 1
Cape Town
Upon arrival in Cape Town you will be transferred to the Cape Grace Hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2
Cape Town
In the morning you will go on a wine tasting excursion at Groot Constantia and visit Table Mountain. (Lunch will be provided en route and you will have dinner at the V&A Waterfront).
Day 3
Cape Peninsula
Today you will go on a city tour of Cape Peninsula visiting: Fish Hoek, Cape Point, Simonstown, Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak Drive and Kirstenbosch. Lunch will be provided en route and dinner will be at the hotel.
Day 4
Rovos Rail
Depart on the Rovos Rail for Pretoria at 11am and in the early evening you will visit the village of Matjiesfontein.
Day 5
Kimberley
In the early afternoon you will arrive in Kimberley and visit the Big Hole and Diamond Mine Museum.
Day 6
Pretoria
After arrival in Pretoria you will enjoy a city tour and transfer in the early evening to your hotel.
Day 7
Rovos Rail
The Rovos Rail will depart today at 10am for Botswana.
Day 8
Rovos Rail
Today you will travel through Botswana and have a day at leisure on board.
Day 9
Victoria Falls
In the late afternoon you will reach Victoria Falls where you will be transferred to the Victoria Falls Hotel for 3 nights.
Day 10
Victoria Falls
You can choose how you spend today, you could; enjoy a tour of the Victoria Falls, go on a helicopter ride or for the more adventurous go river rafting. You will also go on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River and then return to the hotel for the night.
Day 11
Victoria Falls - Zanzibar
In the morning you will take a flight from Victoria Falls to Zanzibar where you will transfer to the Zanzibar Serena Hotel for 2 nights. In the afternoon you will take a tour of Stone Town.
Day 12
Zanzibar
In the morning you will enjoy an Island Spice Tour and then spend the afternoon at leisure.
Day 13
Tanzania
In the morning you will fly to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania where you will be driven for 2 ½ hours to Ngorongoro Farmhouse for 2 nights.
Day 14
Ngorongoro Crater
Today you will go on a game drive excursion to the Ngorongoro Crater and enjoy lunch on the floor of it!
Day 15
Serengeti Plains
Today you will be transferred to Masek Tented Camp in the Serengeti Plains where you will take an afternoon game drive and spend 2 nights.
Day 16
Serengeti Plains
There will be morning and afternoon game drives today.
Day 17
Uganda
Fly to Kilimanjaro airport in the morning for Entebbe, Uganda where you will be split into 2 groups. One will visit the chimpanzees on Ngamba Island and the other will visit Jinja, the source of the Nile. You will spend the night at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort.
Day 18
Uganda
Today you will either visit the chimpanzees on Ngamba Island or Jinja.
Day 19
Sudan
You will be transferred today to Khartoum in Sudan and stay at the Burj Al Fateh for 2 nights.
Day 20
Sudan
There are 2 options for today either go on a full day tour to the sites of Naga and Masawwarates-Sufra (Packed lunch) or a half day tour of Khartoum with lunch at the hotel.
Day 21
Abu Simbel, Egypt
You will take a morning flight today to Abu Simbel in Egypt where you will visit the Abu Simbel temples and board the Kasr Ibrim for the Lake Nasser cruise. You will spend an afternoon at leisure, lunch, dinner and the night on board the cruise.
Day 22
Egypt
This morning you will enjoy a tour from the sun deck on board and at Amada visit the temples of Amada, Derr and the tomb of Penout. In afternoon you will sail to Wadi El Seboua and spend the night on board the ship.
Day 23
Egypt
Today you will visit Wadi El Seboua, the temples of Dakka and Maharakka as well as sail to Aswan.
Day 24
Luxor
This morning you will be transported by road to Luxor and on the way visit the Edfu Temple. Upon arriving in Luxor you will see the Karnak temple and spend the night at the Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa.
Day 25
Luxor
This morning you will visit the West Bank of Luxor (Valley of the Kings, Queens, the Temple of Hatshepsut and Colossi of Memnon). The afternoon will be spent visit the Luxor Temple.

On day 26, you will fly to Cairo and travel to Al Azhar Park for lunch and afterwards visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. You will stay at the Four Seasons First Residence Hotel where you can enjoy views of the Nile and the Great Pyramids.

On your final full day you will visit the Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Saqqara and Memphis. In the evening there is a goodbye dinner and you will spend the night again at the Four Seasons.
