This itinerary gives you a thorough introduction to Reunion Island. You stay in friendly, comfortable 2-star guest houses and cover most of this charming little island. A self-drive holiday lets you go at your own pace and the good road system here makes driving easy. This itinerary can be extended in the areas that are of most interest to you - the hiking here is superb or perhaps spend more time on the beach.

Day 1
London - Reunion
Depart on flight via Paris or Mauritius to Reunion.
Day 2
Cirque de Salazie
On arrival you will be welcomed to Reunion and given a comprehensive self-drive briefing before you collect your hire car. The east coast drive takes you pass the lush Cirque de Salazie and many waterfalls.

The day ends at Hotel Relais des Cimes which is at the foot of the majestic Piton des Neiges in Hell-Bourg village for a 1 night stay with breakfast is included.

Day 3
La Plaine des Palmistes – Bélouve primary forest
Early departure to La Plaine des Palmistes and to explore the primary forest of Bélouve, then 1 night stay Auberge Ferme du Pommeau, breakfast included.

La Ferme du Pommeau is situated in a the middle of a typical village of the highlands, just a few miles from the coast line and a short drive to the Piton de la Fournaise. It has 15 comfortable rooms and an onsite restaurant with a reputation for serving traditional and typical dishes using local produce.
Day 4
Volcano
Drive up to the Pas de Bellecombe and on cloudless days you will be able to see the moonlike scenery and volcanic surroundings. Head to La Plaine des Cafres for a 1 night stay Hotel Les Geraniums with breakfast.

Day 5
Wild South
Follow the wild southern coastline of the Island, with lava streams, vanilla plants and tropical vegetation before driving up to Cilaos to stay 1 night at Hotel Vieux Cep in a standard room, breakfast included.

Day 6
West Coast & Tevelave
Discover the mountainous side of the west coast, which has a perfect view over the Cirque de Mafate.

Take the road across Tamarind forest to Tevelave for a 1 night stay at Domaine des Fougeres, breakfast included.

Days 7 - 8
Cirque de Cilaos - Saint Gilles les Bains
Take the day to drive around the Cirque de Cilaos with its beautiful mountain climate and thermal springs.

Travel to the west coast for 2 nights at Reunion’s answer to St Tropez, Saint Gilles les Bains and stay at Hotel Alamanda, breakfast included.
