Cusco- Chachabamba- Winaywayna- Machu Picchu
On the first day of your Inca Trail tour you will be transported from your hotel to the train station where upon departure you will walk on a hanging bridge to the Chachabamba site. Discovered in 1940, the Chachabamba ruins act as a gate house to Machu Picchu and here buildings thought to have been used for a religious purpose can be seen. Afterwards, you will walk through woods and a stream finally reaching a canyon and the cloud forests. After a picnic lunch, you will see a lovely waterfall and departing from the forests, the ruins of Winaywayna. After walking around this site, you will see the gate of the sun and the breathtaking view of Machu Picchu before heading towards Aguas Calientes. This day involves 6-7 hours covering approximately 13 kilometres. Overnight at El Mapi.
