Early morning game drive into Samburu National Reserve to seek out the Special Five of Samburu: the Reticulated giraffe, the Grevy zebra, the Beisa oryx, the Somali ostrich and the gerenuk, all rare species that occur only in this part of the country, and look for its well known larger game including elephants, lion and leopard. Enjoy a picnic lunch before heading back to the lodge to relax for the afternoon. Unwind with a complimentary half hour massage upon arriving back at the lodge for one of you
Continue to explore the wonders of Samburu on a morning game drive. After lunch, head out on a nature walk discovering animals, plants and the caves in the local area with rock paintings. Evening game drive in Kalama Conservancy, the 200,000-acre private wildlife conservancy in which Saruni Samburu is located, ending with a bush dinner under the stars in the middle of the wilderness, and a night drive back to the lodge. The Samburu warriors dancing, candles and fire under the vast African skies make this a truly magical experience, and one of your highlights of your stay.
After breakfast head to Kalama airstrip (a 30 minute drive) and take your private charter flight to The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille. Settle into your stunning villa for a three night stay with all meals, local drinks, private game drives, escorted bush walks and park fees included. Relaxing afternoon absorbing the panoramic views. After a leisurely breakfast in your villa head out for a camel safari. This is a very special experience and an experience very unique to northern Laikipia. Your camels and Maasai guides meet you in the middle of the bush and you go off into the wilderness on the back of your camel taking in the stunning vistas and marveling at the wildlife that you come across. At the end of your adventure lunch awaits you by the river – relax and enjoy the tranquility! After heading back to the lodge you might like to have spa time / pool time and relax for the afternoon. On top of the Library is a spectacular terrace – relax around the fire and enjoy your pre dinner nibbles and drinks under the vast African skies. Tonight you have dinner in the Library or another villa – a special and personal experience.
To see real Kenyan culture up close and personal this morning is a cultural morning. You can quad bike to the nearby Maasai village (which is a real working village that only Ol Lentille guests visit) and learn about Maasai culture and life – the welcome dance is a special part of the local culture and the smiles and positivity of the people is infectious! After your visit if it’s market day – you can then go to another village and experience the cattle and food weekly market. This shows you such a different side of life here and is a fascinating experience! After your afternoon at leisure you might do a game drive in the local area, the elephant numbers are very impressive and you are pretty much guaranteed to see quite a few during your stay! Head out to one of the favourite sundowner spots and watch the sun set and then head off for a night game drive on your way to your bush dinner. A bush dinner under the stars will be one of the highlights of your stay in Africa and really connects you with the wilderness that you have come to see and experience
You feel recharged, humbled and bowled over by this part of Kenya but all good things come to an end! After a leisurely breakfast you then head onwards cherishing the experiences that you have had at Ol Lentille with the fantastic team of personalities that make it so special. After a 1.5 hour drive to Nanyuki you take your direct flight to Mara North to finish your safari in the spectacular Mara. Within minutes of arriving you will be amazed at the quantity of wildlife around you and the vast open plains of the Mara which is such a different landscape to northern Kenya. Game drive with a picnic lunch to enjoy under an acacia tree or by the river next to a pod of hippo’s, or head to camp. Check into Saruni Mara Camp with all meals, local drinks, shared game drives, escorted walks, park and conservancy fees included. Time to rest and an exclusive game drive later in the afternoon in Mara North Conservancy – over 30,000 acres of plentiful, protected land bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve. Enjoy a completely different and less-explored corner of the Mara eco-system in total privacy, brimming with wildlife.
